Hi Guys,
I’m probably a bit old to be joining my first cannabis forum, since I am retired and in my 70’s. I’ve been using cannabis since the 1960’s, when resin was the only type available. Herbal weed was unknown in my city. In those days, cannabis resin and Pink Floyd went together like fish and chips.
I worked in Africa for many years, where a huge bag of weed cost the same as a pint of beer, and was readily available. When I retired over a decade ago, I didn’t want to get involved in scoring from the drug subculture in my area, so decided to grow my own. After all, I had grown my own indoor tomatoes, so cannabis couldn’t be all that difficult, could it? Hahaha – I was so wrong.
The difficulty was that there was very little authoritative text on the subject, with lots of conflicting advice.
I now have 5 successful tent grows under my belt, 3 using SCROG. I am currently growing 4 x feminised seeds of Eleven Roses from Delicious Seeds. I veg for 8 weeks from germination then flower for 10wks after 12/12.
My tent is 1.2 x 1.2m with heated floor mats, and a Lumatek parabolic reflector with a 600w dimmable dual spectrum HPS lamp. I use BioBizz Grow and Bloom, and temperatures are 20-25C
I top my plants 2 times (first time I did this my hand was trembling and I was sweating), then fix the SCROG, and defoliate / prune later. I judge maturity by examining the trichomes. I have found that a stereo optical microscope is much better than digital for making this judgement, however they are not cheap, like a loupe.
Since I grow only for personal use, I have no idea about the yield of my plants. I don’t want a set of scales in my house, since it could be a smoking gun in the event of an unwelcome visit. I only know that I am happy with the end product, which I pop into a Volcano vaporiser.
Well that’s a summary of my cannabis farming, and hope that I can throw in my two pence worth in the future.
