    Default My loft design

    Hey all

    First time poster, long time reader!

    Looking for advice on my first proper loft grow, going for a 120x120x200 tent and using two 600w mars hydro led lights but I’m looking for help on the air circulation. Can I just vent out into the loft directly? Also I need two decent fans that are absolutely as silent as possible can anyone help me with that? Don’t mind paying a bit extra for the fans I just need them to be absolutely silent! Going to grow 4-6 autos in this setup in fabric pots with soil and perlite mix, is that do-able for a first timer?

    I’ve got a million questions but I’m using the search bar rather than reposting what’s no doubt been asked before

    TIA !

    No fan will be completely silent due to the nature of the beast, moving parts and pushing air thru restrictive spaces.

    There are a few things you can do to quieten them down tho

    Buy a bigger fan than you need and run it slower, an 8" fan at 75% is quieter than a 6" at 100%.

    You can build a silencer box with cardboard/wood and expanding builders foam to help.

    Can buy a fan silencer, never used one personally. (see cheaper diy option above)

    Cut down bends in your ducting, most fan noise is actually air movement not the fan itself, bends mean more noise

    Shove an old prefilter in the end of your ducting to help muffle some of the noise without restricting air flow too much.

    Use acoustic ducting.

    Make sure your ducting is stretched out fully rather than crumpled up as this makes a difference too.

    Hang your fans with bungie cords to absorb some of the vibrations.

    I'm sure there's a few things I have forget but that's the basic gist of it

    NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

    Thanks folks that’s perfect! I have been looking at the mods in the stickys and I think I’ll go down that route it’s just the walls of my house are piss thin so don’t want the neighbours hearing anything!

    Is it ok just to vent straight out into the loft or do I need to get it outside?

    Room below ain’t an option sadly, could try get it into the soil stack? Looking at 2 8” inline fans one for in one for out, 1050m3/hour it’s just trying to get an 8” carbon filter to match

    Am I going overkill or not enough?

    I would need something very inconspicuous as it’s social housing

    1.2*1.2*2 grow tent

    1.2x1.2x2=2.88m3

    To keep negative pressure in the tent (thus keeping smell in) you ideally want to replace the air inside the tent 2-4 times a minute. So if we say 4 times per minute in this case.

    4x2.88= 11.52m3 to be moved every 60 seconds.

    So in an hour you need to move 11.52 x 60(minutes)=691.2m3

    The fans you mention shift 1050m3 per hour. You can run your fan therefore at 70% and still shift more than enough air to keep negative pressure (smell inside). This also helps keep the noise down

    Be aware that bends in the ducting and a mismatched carbon filter will change the efficiency of the fan meaning you may have to run it faster to compensate.

    Replacing the air twice per minute (still enough for negative pressure)

    1.2x1.2x2=2.88

    2x2.88= 5.76
    5.76x60minutes = 345.6m3/hour

    Run the fan at 35% and maintain negative pressure (smell inside) making it even quieter still.

    Again Large fans running slower make less noise than small fans running quicker. So basically I would say stick with the 8" and run it slowed down

    Quite rite mate a fan speed controller would be handy.
