Default killed my first cutting, help?

right so i took a cutting from a white widow a week ago, was put in a jiffy plug (surrounded by biobizz lightmix soil to keep upright) into a heated propagator with a small humidifier left in darkness for about 24hrs, then was put under a small t5 light for 24hrs a day looked really healthy i never watered the cutting but the jiffy plug was still moist.

+++so cutting is 7 days old at this point+++

yesterday afternoon i fired up my 4ft 4tube t5 as i had my friends fully grown mother to look after so i put the cutting under also still in the heated propagator with humidifier in there and humidity was around the 75% mark room temp was under 30c everything was absolutely fine after about 6hrs under the big t5 the cutting didnt look stressed wilted or anything.

until i woke in the morning to find low temps and a dead looking cutting...

this is how it was setup yesterday!
4ft 4 tube t5 about 1.5ft off top of propagator
    light set for 18/6hrs
    humidifier going 24hrs
room temperature when lights where off 16c (propagator was at about 24c)

i am working on the heating side of it, tube heaters and oil filled heater into thermostat should be working by end of play today

surely lights off with humidifier wouldnt do it any favours? but then im thinking the stronger light might have been too much after judt 7 days?

    help before i kill anymore

(i will upload some pics using my phone in a min)

Is there any coming back from this?

First thing when taking cuttings, Don't plant them in soil. Leave them in A glass and keep them moist, until you have roots coming out the plug. This will take about two weeks at least, then you can plant into soil. More than likely you hit up on some hot soil, causing it to die. I have kill 4 like this this week, trying to plant them directly into soil, so A common event, if you don't grow some good roots first before planting. JMO

I would also of left the soil,
Make sure the inside of the done is moist and just keep her out the direct light.

The soil was a mistake i agree, no roots showing out the jiffy plug though.

Would this new aeroponic propagator make this easier?

Just keeping the humidity nice and high in the propergator you got will be fine, first I just leave the lid on for a few days then start opening it once a day then twice etc as roots start showing,
