Default Do I need a fan speed controller?

    Hello everyone. Hope yer good.

    Having taken advice from your kind selves I have started purchasing stuff for my stealth grow wardrobe ( 5.9' * 2.6' * 1.2' = ( 18.408 cu./ft )).

I had already bought a ( WYZM LED Grow Light,2000W HPS Replacement,Full Spectrum Red/Blue/UV/IR/White,Double Chips Grow Lamp(200X10W-Long) ) and so using this to work everything else off.

I worked out that the inline fan I need should have 32.24? m3h although I wouldnt be surprised if this is wrong as I am as thick as pigs sh!t ( 1.79 * 0.79 * 0.38= 0.537358
    0.537358 * 60 = 32.24148? m3h ).

After hour upon hour of searching I have chosen the RAM Mixed Flow - Budget Extraction Kit: £79.95
    1 x Ram Mixed Flow Fan 4-inch Two speed settings (200 m3/hr)
    1 x Rhino Hobby filter
    1 x 5m length of ducting
    3 x duct clips

Is it worth me getting the 5" at 284 m3/hr for peace of mind??

The thing thats confusing me is the fact I keep coming across articles stating that a speed controller is needed for the fan. Leaves me thinking why the mofo controller isnt included if it is needed.

Can I ask a cheeky extra question? Cheers. For my setup (glorified bedroom cupboard) should I just leave the specific dimension passive hole in the bottom of the build (presuming I have worked pressures etc out rigtt) or should I get pc fan or a small desk fan?

Thanks for the time, help and advice ppl. Much appreciated :-)

    Teddy

Yes mate if your running passive put the hole at the bottom of space mate and cover the hole with a piece of cooker hood extraction filter over it to keep any unwanteds out

I'd also go for the biggest extraction you can manage tbh and yes a fan speed controller will be of benefit,as your only running extraction I'd get a single fan controller preferably with a thermostatic probe

But, yes, definitely you'll need a speed controller for that.

It'll suck the varnish off a wardrobe grow.

If I typed all of the sentences beginning with "It'll suck the..." that I typed first and then deleted (before plumping for something tame) we'd be here all night.

When you buy your fan make sure you can run it at a certain percentage of its full power without damage. many are rated down to about 30% full power that helps you know your low idle speed on your fan controller. then if stealth isn't your primary concern you might want to fan speed controller that will shut things off when it gets too cold. The last setting is your high speed which should be as close to 100% as you can get The only thing stopping you would be your fan is so large that it just sucks your 10 in too hard and cools it off too low.

I definitely recommend getting a much bigger fan than you think you need it gives you a lot of options for cooling. If you have any ducting outside of your tent don't use that single wall aluminum stuff it will get holes in it and leak. Always best to get something that's double wall if possible. another thing to think about, is that small fans running full out make a lot more noise than big fans running half speed. Metalized tape works best to tape your ducts together regular 90 mph tape will fail in the heat after a certain amount of time.

Thanks so much guys. Appreciate your time and that info.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnd we are off to a great start here.
The first item i purchased for my stealth grow has arrived, and its fu@ked to high fu@kery.
LED arrived today. Had some diy 2 finish but not long opening it, just in case.
Lifted it out of its box, carefully, and could hear a slight rattle noise. Thought ffs whats goin on.
Turned it over and glass/plastic is broke. Not impressed.

Just sent a mssg to the c@nts on Amazon. Want replacement unit not replacement glass as I havent even turned it on yet.
Think delivery ppl broke it tbh but not my problem.

If LED ppl d!ck me about in any way I will be asking for a full refund or I will be down to their office with my claw hammer. Bit annoyed lol

    Cheers though ppl
Got more crucial info before picking this fan out.

I have a Black Orchid 150mm centri-flo extractor fan in a 1.2 x 1.2m tent . It has a built in speed controller. What I like about it is that on it's slowest speed, it is really slow, just a whisper, which is useful in cold weather. You will also need at least one small circulation fan. Secret Jardin make a cheap reliable monkey fan which is easy to clip onto tent frames. I avoid the oscillating type of circulation fan, since I came to the conclusion that it was the oscillation mechanism which was causing early failure of the fans. I use one monkey fan during veg, and increase this to two during flower.
    hope this helps
