    Default Uploading photo paranoia

This may be weed induced bollocks but I’ve just watched a police programme where they tracked down a antique fireplace by reading the co ordinate data that’s stored in a .jpg file. Could any techies on here advise if the same could be done with photos posted on here?

It's possible if you have your location tag turned on while you're taking photos with your cell phone, if all that data is still on there when you have to put your photos yet they're going to know where you're at.

If your real paranoid you can get an app that will strip all the data off your image files before you upload them.

You want to download a free app to remove Exif data. I always strip mine before uploading.

Not including the pics I have uploaded through tapatalk, I have 1,860 pics on the sites gallery. I don't suffer from paranoia

If using your phone to take pics, you can turn location info off in the camera settings so it wont store where you are.

These days though, it's just not worth the paperwork to the police for a small personal grow. They're more interested in the idiots with houses full of plants

I use a VPN everywhere these days. Nothing to do with the site - I just object to our governments data collection schemes, let them collect other peoples browsing history...

I've been using one for years, on PC and phone.

You should all know that the lying bitch Theresa May introduced a load of new laws regarding privacy. Some vpn's do track where you go and because of the new laws the authorities don't need a warrant to get the last years data. All of it, text messages, emails, the websites you visited to a certain degree, as they can only get the base domain. So for this site they would see you visited thctalk.com and how long you were on here, but not the individual pages. I am not sure but I believe with a warrant they could get the pages.
The government now has the most surveillance powers in the world. They are paying every provider to store everything it can about you for 1 year. So basically they own it.
Not all vpn's can be trusted, I use Private Internet Access and pay for it. They encrypt everything and keep nothing. They released a statement saying if the UK govt tried to force them to hand over information they would move all their servers to a country without such laws. They did it in another country but forget which.
I would advise everyone to do research about the VPN they are using or thinking of using.

If you are really concerned use TOR. It will be a much slower experience, so no 4k movies but the security is top notch. Get an email address through that and only ever use it with TOR. To be even more secure, install Tails on a USB stick along with TOR. It is probably the most secure system ever. For more general use try Linux. The problem with Linux is it can be a pretty steep learning curve and there are a plethora of versions to choose from. Again, do a lot of research.
Here's some links, all these should be ok to post here.
