Default First time garden grow just started flowering. Fertilizer advice needed.

    Hi everyone,

This my first time grow and first post here so please be kind.

I have been growing a couple of 'Auto Gorilla Shizzle', one of which has just shown it's first obvious pistil today: Flowering stage confirmed, I'm very excited!

My grow is outside in a Northern European garden and the plants are in 100% bog standard soil and decent sized pots (started off in the greenhouse and moved outside later on). Everything has gone pretty well apart from a couple of weeks of poor weather that has stunted growth. Otherwise no problems so far.

I haven't used any nutrients but understand the probable need for some added P and K during the flowering period. I am somewhat adverse to using specialised cannabis fertilizer so have purchased some Cactus food with NPK ratios of 10/20/20 which seems to be the best off the shelf alternative.

    So my question is:
Should I wait for signs of deficiency before using the feed/use it now/when/don't use it?

Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You would have been better placed with tomato food

Until she finishes her stretching she'll still need a good supply of nitrogen...

Sweet, I have tomato feed at hand, shall use a little tomorrow.
    Thanks M_C.

I forgot to mention that I have used a small amount of seaweed fertilizer so far.

Wilko 'pour and feed', it's supposed to be poured straight onto the soil (no mixing with water). I mixed with some water anyway and used very little this morning.

I've been looking for signs of difficancy before adding anything but the plants have seemed fine so far (apart from slow growth b/c the weather), thus this was the first tentative feeding.

As it's my first time grow I have used the 'less is more' philosophy, also my reading has indicated that soil holds plenty of nutrients to start with Vs soilless or hydroponics (most advice online is for more exotic setups than mine, I just want to grow a couple of plants amoungst my veg)

My main question still stands tho:
(Once the stretch is over) should I use the Cactus feed (10/20/20) right away or wait for signs of stress. I'm sure a little extra P&K at the right time will do wonders for yeild and keep me away from my dealer for a bit longer!

Also any other thoughts or input are welcome.

I don't feed my outdoor plants in soil until they show deficiencies and then I choose my feed type and level based upon how they appear. a good cannabis specific nutrient allows you to do that. But like M_C says, tomato fertilizer is closest to what cannabis plants need.

I'm using this on my outside plant. Works very well. Still in veg, and has grown 16" in last 14 days.

Yee... like the man Jingo say... no need for feed yet. There’ll be loads of good stuff in the mud already which the plant can use up as it needs it.

I can’t recommend Tomorite enough for outdoor weed tho mate, that cactus food sounds a bit strong. You’ve gotta think, how often do you water a cactus, and how often do you water a mature weed plant? There’s a big difference. With the Tomo it’s just a question of deciding how much to give... 1, 2 or 3ml per litre. I’ve used it loads indoors and out and that shit works.

Another option is to plant it in the ground, then you don’t need to feed it at all.
