Default Changing my dog to raw food help please.

Some of you guys convinced me that raw food will be better for my elderly Lakeland terrier on this thread

    https://www.thctalk.com/cannabis-for...unny-as-hell-D

Not wanting to clog up that thread I thought I'd start another.

So, today I was looking to buy him his food. One company mentioned Middleton foods. 2 things, I noticed about them and the products. 1, I emailed them over a week ago asking about feeding guides and as of yet I've not had a reply. 2, The packs of meat I looked at all said in the additional information, that the meat was a supplementary food. However, they did seem to be the cheapest I could find, and by quite a lot. Daily food bill would be 0.36p

I looked at a couple of other companies that supplied prepared meals, these range from about £1.30 a day upwards. These were balanced diet meals tailored to my dog. The one I would have settled on was about £1.80 a day.

What do you guys do and do you have any recommendations? I don't really want to spend £1.40 a day if it isn't necessary.

2 too 3% of your dogs total body weight is what you should be feeding the dog .
With puppies you can double the above amount.

The food you are looking at will be fine but as a said before you really should be looking at a product that at the beginning and especially for the first few days is just chicken mince only without bones
This will allow the dogs stomach acids come back up to a level to allow the dog to easily digest the bones.

Sometimes these foods say complete meals or supplementary
Complete food will or should have a make up of
    80% chicken
    10% bone
    10% offal

Supplementary might just be chicken or beef or 100% offal

Anymore questions fire away and if you're really struggling I'd advise you to ring a company called rawsome pets and ask for some advice.
I'm afraid that Middleton raw foods will not give you the best advice, although they produce the food and it's 100% as good as anyone else's I don't think they own a dog

Dude, you have a very good day, you just made mine

I ordered from The Dogs Butcher. I bought a starter box and pigs ears.

    1kg ox tripe
    1kg lamb tripe
2kg chicken and tripe 10% bone
1kg duck and tripe 10% bone
1kg ox tripe complete with chicken
1kg ox tripe complete with duck

We advise straight swap unless your dog has had dietary issues

DAY 1-7 Plain tripe only Either lamb or Ox
DAY 8- 21 Chicken and tripe 10% bone then duck and tripe
DAY 21-28 Ox tripe complete with chicken and lamb tripe complete with duck

Works out 74p a day. No brainer for me.

    Thanks again BB

Sorry if I’m going to upset any body but I’m just talking from my own experience. Don’t do it with and older dog, mine really went down hill when we switched. We’re now feeding him tribal with salmon oils and he’s now a thriving 13 year old.
With a youngster I’d go for it.

My dog also eats a lot of raw salmon and duck .
Any fresh road kill is gutted hung and frozen for him and definitely freeze it first to kill any bacteria

    A funny dog day

    His new food arrived.

Foodstuff, mince chick ect. - Just fit in the crap freezer.

Pigs ears, at least that's what I ordered. I got, dehydrated lamb spleen. Mmmm, yummy

Keen to treat him and ease him into raw food, I gave him one. Fuck me, it was like giving crystal meth to an addict. Vrooom, into the garden. I grabbed my camera. Then it was like trying to take it back. I could see it was too big for his little delicate mouth (yea, really) so grabbed my big scissors to cut into smaller pieces

Devil Dog is born! He has never "really" growled at me before. This was a proper FUCK OFF

Think Cesar Milan. I calmly took control of the situation and the ...spleen (why? why the fuck? what is wrong with me?)

It was covered in some, slimy, slobber like stuff. I thought, "he looks ok", so I just cut it in1/2. Call me a bad dad.

Turns out, he loved that game, he got 2 treats, I got double happiness at seeing his. Winner, winner, chicken dinner

The 1st pic I took.1 x dried lambs spleen. That's not his tongue

I thought I had better calculate the cost of this change.

    Worth every penny

I can assure you he isn't stressed. He loves his new diet. After 2 days his bad breath went and poo stopped stinking. It really stank. He used to leave some of the old food, mainly biscuits. He leaves nothing now. His coat seems softer, this may be because it is also a bit longer and he had a good brush. Time will tell. He seems happier and I like having a dog that hasn't got stinky breath!
