Default Unanswered: Extraction fan help. Noise.

I got my new 6” extraction twin speed yesterday and I got it set up last night and switched it on. And ya fucker the noise off this thing. Any tips on how to get it quieter. Would boxing it help. Much ? I’m looking at controllers now think it would do the trick ?

I had done and was reading them. Do you know if like different fan designs make different noises or is it just the pure loud of the air being sucked through like how you get rvk fans or in-line fans. In the book for the fan it says to run between 70-100% and I reckon that would still be way too much.

They are all pretty noisy. Mine drove me mad-but a 10 quid controller you just plug it in to totally sorted the issue. No need foe extractors to run on full power. Mine is on about 1/4 speed and is quieter than my PC

Yes different types are different.ive only ever used a rvk and box fan. I find the big rvk motors buzz a lot. Sound proof box helps but doesn't make it 100% sound proof. Whereas my box fan on the other hand the motor is silent so all I can hear is the air woosh when it's dead at night and I'm in the room. But the box fans don't pull the same amount of air as their rvk size for size

I was looking at that tenner one. Also the smscom one for about 35 pound. Wondering if they would be alright to use. I keep reading about the humming it can make but I’m sure it won’t be that bad in the tent with fans on anyway. Think I will have to get one ordered today.

You can try putting it in the box and using insulated ducting. I used a silenced fan, I'd recommend that, the normal fans are too noisy.

Alright man, never used a plug in controller but I've got a proper variac controller, 79 quid 8 months ago, use it on a 6 inch rvk in a 1x1x1.8 m tent on setting 1/5 no smell and you'd barely know it was on, if at all tbf

Yeah I think it has to be a variac one or you just get a load of noise from what I read. Think I’ll get one at some point.

I take it say any design of fan if they were all 500m3 then the woosh of air will always be the same?
