Default Fan and filter different sizes

I've got a cupboard setup to carry on with pepsi plant while I take everything else down. Max size I could make it is 170cm (h) 71cm (w) 49cm (d) bit narrower than I'd like but needs must. Extraction wise I've got a 4" and a 6" rvk but I only have 6" filters. I know the 6 ", and tbf probably the 4", is more powerful than needed but 1 has to go in. This is only temporary but no idea how long for. So whats best to do? I have a variac controller so can keep it on 1/5 and make a big enough passive intake but is it best to use 6" fan or 4 " fan and use a 6" to 4" connector and put the 4" fan on the 6" filter?

try both see which is quieter? so long as they can hit the required m3/h to match the filter the actual size doesnt matter

Using a reducer isn't optimal but you only lose a small % of efficiency and some increased noise. I use a 6" to 4" for my fan to filter

Yeh thats what it'll come down to then, noise. As long as either way it'll be effective, the 6" fan and matching filter are pretty quiet on 1/5 so may just make a big enough passive intake and use that, certainly try it first, save rewiring

It'll be fine, fan will be ok labouring with the filter but at worse it will reduce the life of the fan.
