Cheers man, not a clue about cars, never been brave enough to dive in alone and never known anyone with any interest in fixing cars. Called AA out twice in 6 yrs, both away from home, once was the battery and other time was the alternator, both sortedon the road. With the alternator, the aa guy drove me to get a part then fitted it for me to save me having to go the garage

I still thank it is the battery or Starter or both. Battery can have enough juice to light up lights and radio, but not enough to turn over motor. Let's us know what the problem is when you get her fix AAA.

In the states you can pull your alternator out take it down to the local auto parts store and they'll check and see if it will charge. If you jump the car and get it down there they have code readers for free also.

Had a similar problem. During troubleshooting we explored the battery, starter and alternator. Ended up being a bad ground to the fuse box under the hood, some dialectic grease patched it right up. Worth a check!

Thanks, at least the aa guy will check it all, probably determine it within 5 minutes tbf, usually cross each thing off with volt meters etc from the limited experience of breaking down I've had

I saw him change the alternator once and he got a 3ft spanner/socket tool and shoved it near the bottom of the engine I think. My tools are woodworkin stuff mainly

Pick your self up an on meter, and you can check all those things your self.

Halfords do a free battery and alternator test or at least they used to, there are a few car spares shops do it too...If your car has an OBD2 socket then get yourself a cheap scanner and grab the codes, that should help you chase down the misfires also clears any stored codes and check engine lights..

Just dont get hoodwinked into buying the AA batteries they carry with them.

Assume yours is a Petrol and 1.6 as a guess? Possibly an 063 battery - one of the most common around
