Any old Ebay ups (APC, Eaton for example) will be fine for small power, like fans. Look for pure sine wave for motor / fans apps. The battery could be the issue but loads of old back up batteries on Ebay ( powersafe, fiamm, enersys, sprinter for example ). They are passed best for Google or Barclays but fine for a few uses a year at home. Dont need deep cycle batteries if grid only fails a few times a year or less.
We just need to chop off the existing battery connector and wire onto the new battery externally. Low power will be 12v, high power 48v, some 24v
All depends on power and time required. If you are asking about VA then to answer question you need to know the power factor of the load. Generally go for watts (real power) = VA (apparent power) x0.7 (PF). It shouldnt be worse than that but can be.
