Question First time grower looking for advice ????

    Hey guys..

So I'm looking to get something set up, nothing massive just an 80x80x120cm tent and maybe 3 or 4 plants.

I'm looking for help with equipment. So far, I've looked at buying the whole setup with a 600w LED lamp for £235. My worry here is that the light won't be great quality and the kit contains things I don't need or already have. I also feel that buying the components separately, I can concentrate more money on certain things that would benefit my setup.

Can anyone recommend a decent LED light that would suit the above? I don't want to spend stupid money but equally I'm willing to spend a bit on quality.

I'd also appreciate some pointers on fans, intake and outtake and filters etc..

    TIA ?????

I made the mistake of buyin a "complete grow kit" . Maybe think about getting more height if its possible, soon become a pain in the ass being so low. Regards ya lights there is a site sponsor, vivid, who does LED, get a light for your requirements for a bit under 200, best by far I'm led to believe. So it doesn't leave a lot left out of your £235 but if you're gonna do this continually then invest from the start, I didn't and thats why I now have more stuff I don't use than stuff I do use . Main things are light, extraction fan, filter, tent, oscilating fan, hygro meter, then maybe de/humidifier depending on your climate, always gonna be more you have to buy but thats your basic necessity stuff

first of all, decided how many plant you want to do. check the power draw of that 600w led unit. cos if im not mistaken, it draws about 200w or less. which makes sense for that size of tent it comes with.

4plants = 1.2x1.2 tent with 600w hps or led panel that draws around 3-400w from the wall. this will require a 6" extractor and filter. with a 6" passive intake.

2 plants = 1.2x .60 tent or similar with a led panel that covers the rectangle area and draws 2-300w power from the wall. 5" extractor with 5" passive intake.

next you must decide on medium and nutes and pots..

i recommend, airpots and coco coir with canna coco nutes. this is a very good and forgiving combination used by many.

I'll second that, only thing I still use from my "complete kit" is the tent everything else was useless ! If money is tight try shopping around and looking for deals your plants will thank you later. If your looking at doing 4 plants I'd say minimum of 1m x 1m x 1.6 tent.

Complete kits just mean you are left with a load of crap you dont need. Buy seperate items definitely.

I used the crap that came with a complete kit to sort a small herb garden box out for growing it was useless...

    Buy cheap, buy twice.

    Hi chaps,

Thanks for a brilliant response. It's great (and extremely helpful) to have somewhere I can ask questions and get a decent, mixed response.

I've decided to spend a bit more, leaning towards Krofam's advice and so have gone for the following-

    250w HLG QB288 Samsung LED 4000k Light
    Hydroshoot HS80 (80x80x120) Grow Tent
Black Orchid 5" Extractor (to use as intake) + Carbon Filter
VENTS UK 5" Mixed Flow Extractor Fan
Ram 6" Clip On Oscillating Fan

I think I am going to go for 3, as a middle ground. Unless you guys think I can push 4 with this tent? Apparently this light should provide 2.5g per watt although I'm a bit sceptical. 1g would be nice for 3 for a first time if I'm honest!

I've already potted 3 seedlings into coco so think I will stick with that when I repot them. Any recommendations on pot sizes?
I'd bought a try pack of bio bizz nutes, grow, bloom and top max. Anyone have any experiences with these? Should I ditch and go for something else (canna)?

    Thanks again guys chat soon

You can see from my earlier reply I have now grabbed everything mentioned in your post. Hygrometer on the way too!

Nice one mate, hope it all comes together nicely for ya. One thing though, I use passive intake but I think your intake may need to be smaller than extraction, don't quote me on that as I know nothin about the extractor you have. Someone will have more to offer on it though

Thanks! Me too. Sorry, the intake is a black orchid axial 5" pulling about 195m3 and the VENTS extractor should do 250m3. Do you think I could use a fan controller on the VENTS if needed or would the difference be ok (I know it needs to be negative)
