I dunno mate, I'm not an electrician but for the sake of 15 quid for a plug n grow timer, I wouldn't risk it. Unless they are the same specs as the one you have of course
When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all.

I’ve taken it off for now, I’ll grab one tomorrow. Thanks for pointing this out, I really appreciate it.

Cheap timers are not designed to handle the start upload created by grow lights and can burn out with disasterous results.

it may say 13amp Rating at 240v. but it also needs to have a Heavy Duty 22amp Switch to handle the initial load.
    13a x 240v = 3120w max running load
    22a x 240v = 5280w initial startup load

as you can see, the initial load is way more than it can handle.

Users of HPS external ballast sets should be aware that mechanical ballasts degrade over time. After 18/24 months of continual use they become less efficient, consume more power and their initial peak load can be much greater than when new.

I bought a contactor relay for mine, you can use a cheap timer for it as the timer doesn't handle the load, 2 plugs one for mains and another for timer.

But me being me I've bought a proper grow timer to go with it aswell.

So is this a timer too or just an extension?

Just the contactor, you still need the timer. It was only £28 from growell. They’re doing 10% if you buy with card instead of cash.

Plug the light into the bit that looks like an extension. Then the one plug goes into the timer and the other one goes into the power.

Works fine so far, noticed a massive difference when it turned on this evening.

if you have the plugs. this is prefect. i may even still have on laying around from when before i upgraded.

i like how i can have 2 lights per plug with mine as im limited to 2 double sockets.
