    Default PH testing

    hey everyone

I am getting all the things together for my first autoflowering. I have never done photoperiods, either.

When it comes to testing the ph of the water and soil, do I need to buy separate digital items for these or is there an all in one for both soil and water device?

    Thanks

I've never bothered about water PH in soil mate.... and soil can only be PH tested using a slurry test

So you're saying you never test the ph of the water that you use to germinate the seeds and test the soil before planting?

I never even owned a PH tester until I ventured into coco. Why would I?

...also, any decent soil will tell you the approx PH of it on the bag

Oh right. What about testing water? I am planning my first grow in soil and I've been told that the water ph has to be correct during the germination of the seed.

I can tell you that my tap water is PH 7.8 - I have always germinated my seeds in my tap water & had been growing a few year before I knew the Ph

...ask yourself, why would the PH make a difference for germination?

Sorry for my ignorance. I am a novice.

I saw a guy germinating the seeds on YouTube and he was talking about testing the ph.

A seed only needs water, no nutrients. As PH affects nutrient take up, why would you PH your water to germinate?

I am aware that some rant on about PH adjusting in soil - I take exactly the opposite stance - there is no need as the soil will buffer the PH.

If you were growing photoperiods (which I don't) with a long veg period, there may be some sense in PH adjusting, I can't say as I haven't done that...

As it's my first grow I want to keep things as simple as possible.

When you autoflower seeds after germinating and then at the stage of planting them into the soil mix. Do I ensure that I water the soil before I insert the germinated seed?

I water my soil to run off, it saves me having to bother about it for a while
