    Default Light timing

Hi folks. I am doing a 600 watt dual spectrum indoor grow. I have been reading a report by the RHS saying plants need 8 hours dark. I know I have successfully achieved 3 grows using 18 - 6. I was wondering, would it be okay to cut light to 17 - 7 ? This would bring it close to the 8 hours recommended and saved me an hour per day electricity, over the whole grow adds up to quite a decent saving. I dont want to compromise on my grow to save a few quid so advice would be most appreciated. Many thanks, Bud G.

Would you really wanna go through the trouble to save an average of £5 over a 8 week veg period?

No although it does save a few quid, I'm more interested in it making a difference to the plants. I could do with saving a few quid but not vital. Thanks for replying mate.

Maybe I shouldn't mention the saving and present my question as, Will an extra hour of darkness be favourable or detrimental to the plants?

Yes you will save money, at 1 hour less per day over 7 weeks you lose 2 solid days of light and potential growth. Whether that's worth it is subjective and a decision only you can make

It wont hurt the plant as such but will affect final results

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

I never viewed it that way thanks. I was reading up on dark periods for plants and it said plants grow faster during their dark period. Although I do appreciate it may be different under artificial lighting and the page is generalizing quite a bit as species must differ.

Cannabis is a C3 plant meaning it doesn't absorb or store CO2 during its dark period, so doesn't need one
