Default First time grower what extraction fan will I need?

I am a new grower I have a 80 by 80 by 160 tent. I have 4 plants inside and they have been growing for a few weeks now and I'm looking to get an extraction fan I already have a 5 inch carbon filter bought and I'm looking to get a fan. Any help on what will be a good one ?

If you have a 5" filter then the rest of the extraction would make sense at 5" - a RVK would be my choice...

A fan controller could really help too

    Welcome to the forum

To work out your extraction multiply all the sides of your tent together to see the amount of air it holds ...

    0.8 x 0.8 x 1.6 = 0.768m3

So your tent holds 0.768m3 of air. You want to replace all that air in the tent multiple times per hour so to work it into m3/h we multiply by 60minutes (1 hour)

0.768m3 x 60 = 46.08m3/h (total amount of air over 1 hour if the air in the tent is exchanged completely every minute.)

I generally recommend exchanging the air at least twice per minute to maintain negative air pressure in the tent. This stops air flowing back out of the tent before it can be filtered, so we can double that number

    46.06 x 2 = 92.16m3/h.

Adding a carbon filter generally reduces the fans effectiveness so we allow an extra 50% to compensate.

    92.16m3/h x 1.5 = 138.24m3/h

So what ever fan you buy needs to be rated to at least 138.24m3/h. You want to go with one bigger than this ideally and slow it down with a speed controller. Bigger fans running slow are quieter than smaller fans running fast.

Any bends in your ducting will reduce effectiveness too and generally 20% is added for each 90 degrees bend. This will vary depending on your set up so if you do have any bends then multiply by 1.2 for each 90 degree bend you have

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!
