Default Need help with sound proofing

Am just building a new grow set up now, my frame is 1.6x1.2x1.6
I installed my ventilation yesterday and am worried about the noise. My grow room is adjoining the next door neighbours.

Any advice on how to build a box surrounding it to reduce noise. Out of MDF, plywood etc. I've got some plywood. I have shown pics of the fixings on the ceiling nd the fan./ The fan is a Black Orchid.
(Black Orchid BO-HF Hybrid Flo in Line Horticultural Extractor Fan - Black) - Link removed

    Carbon filter
(Ram 150/475 6-inch 500m³/ hr Filter)- Link removed

The fan and carbon filter are currently hanging on paracord on a hook to reduce noise. Any advice on how or what to do to reduce noise any further. You can see in the picture how I've hung it.

We are renting so can't make structural changes or permanent fixings.

    Any advice?

I had one of them. Boxed it in. And it was worse. Worst purchase ever. Thought I was buying better than just gettin a rvk. The black orchid hums with cheap controllers as well. I boxed mine in with phonic trap ducting and the fan noise was unreal. So bought twice. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Sorry to say.

Hi SmokeyJim, firstly we don't allow links to external website so I went ahead and removed them and replaced them with the names (can be googled with results to show exactly what you have).

I know many say bungee cords help a lot with vibrations, you could also build a box for a fan depending on space to help with noise.

You can also purchase material to line the grow room with, I forget the name of it mind but it's also great for keeping temps stable.

    Thanks Ice, sorry about that.

What would people recommend regarding the fan? Is there a less noisy one? Was planning to use a second one of these for the intake, so should I get 2 of a different one?

No problem and thank you for understanding

In regards to a silent fan, it all really depends on your budget..you can get some really good silenced fans out of the box but they are expensive and most are longer/bigger than your usual.

I personally go for the strong RVK fan types (can fans), they are robust and solid, then built a box to house it inside to reduce noise.

The ducting also helps, I went for phonic trap ducting which is the modern equivalent of the old insulated types and do a good job.

Edit - Also If you go for a fan that is more powerful than you need, you can then purchase a fan controller to turn it down (some have them built-in, like the Rhino ones)..it will be more silent than a smaller fan running full pelt

Give it a go mate, if the temps are fine then it'll probably be fine
