    Default Answered: Help hydroponics system

Hi all little confused on this new system I've just got. I've done a test run couple of leaks here and there. So the tank is supposed to be 42 litres but its about 35. So when I run it the top tray starts to fill but before it reaches the overflow water runs out in the tank so my Question is
Is the overflow for later on when the plants roots take up the room in the top tray or should it be like a continuous cycle because in the early stages the full res is going to empty into the top tray so that means the young plants will sit in water for a long period. Or will it return back through the supply pipe? Please advise.

You only need to do a complete rez change around 7~10 days personally I would drag the bottom tank out give it a good clean then make up a fresh rez...For topping off just add fresh water then adjust the Ec & pH as required...I like to clean any rez or container that's had nutrient solution in it for a while because it tends to leave a residue on the walls of the container/rez...But it's entirely up to you how you want to do it...

I watched the feed pipe when I turned it off and the bottom res filled back up so maybe get a timer. The long black pipe is the feed one and the other is overflow.

Scrap that..It looks like flood and drain..I looks like once the flood cycle has finished the top tank drains back via the feed pipe...PM a link to where you got it and I'll take a look..

Cheers. One last problem. On the video it shows him putting water in with a can but i want to mix my feed before i put it in so trying to do it through a little hole is not going to be good so do you think it's best to get one of them blue barrals mix it all up in one of them then use a pump to the main Res. It seems a ballache taking the lid of and disconnecting the pump in there.
