    Default 2 fans one filter

    Evening all,
A big problem with a lot of my grows are having the fans on 24, a little too hot when the lights on and too cold when the lights off ( guess there high price kits out there that would do the job)
so my idea is 5" fan pulling air out of the room when the lights out and a 6" fan when the lights on(very basic system on 2 timers)

any problems you can see with the design ?

    Thanks for any help

Hello mate, you will lose some efficiency from each fan doing that unless you can block off whichever fan isn't on at the time. At least some of the on fan's energy will go on just pulling air round through the off fan in a circle otherwise. Hard to say how much of a difference it'd make but personally I probably wouldn't spend any money finding out. Just having the two in line might work better, although really I'd have thought one fan with a controller would be a neater way of doing it.

    Hi Keepitsimple.

If they are too hot with the lights on, you need better airflow. If they are too cold during lights off, use a tube heater.

I've used a data logger to see what was happening to them over a 24 hour period. The dew point was closest to the %RH for about 15 to 20 minutes after the lights came on and same again when the lights turned off. So I had the tube heater run from 30 minutes before lights off to 30 minutes after lights on.

These days, I let the loose end drag. As long as they don't overheat during lights on, that's good enough for me.

There are environment controllers that can automate day and night. Just depends on your budget.

You can get your design as above to work with a few ducting dampers( to close the other duct off) but at the end of it you may still have a load of control and setting up to do.

    Thanks Geddon and Gardro,

Intake air is going to be pulled in from the exstraction

have cut a 12" x 8" hole in shed floor (centre), ( floors a good 5" above concrete base so the airs going to be cold) and place some mesh over the top, placed a floating floor 4" above the hole,
the floating floor cut 10" short width so I can have cool air pulled up each end of the flower room

    2m (L) x 0.7m(W) x 2m (h)

going to buy 6 x 5" round one way vents, 3 on each side, may put a tube heater directly above them to warm the air a little in the winter.

The hot air will leave at the other end of the shed and the base is built in a way the cold and hot can't mix.

The shed walls are 6" thick and well insulated with 50mm earthwall (walls, ceiling and floor) should reduce noise and keep temps more constant.

going to use 2 x 600w hps in the flower room

any idea on a good fan with a effective fan controllers( thinking of a larger fan, filter turned down to keep the noise low)

Here's what the readout looks like from a usb data logger:
