Hi welshthc For the last year I've been using Bio Bizz light mix 60% perlite 20% Vermiculite 20% well mixed, keep it damp and under the light for a day or two before dropping the seed in after germinating, at the momens I'm growing auto's and using Bio Bizz nutes, but looking at living soil for my next grow. there are lots of composts on the market and lots of nutes that others are successfully using, somebody else will throw some light on those. good luck
So much to learn, so little time to learn it
Whilst I'm more a Coco man, B&Q Verve Multipurpose compost & Plant Magic Old timers works well

Coco all the way, but Verve from B+Q gets rave reviews on here.
Or look up some posts of the posts from Rediesel about living soil if you fancy building your own

See im having issues and I'm trying to see what the cause is.
I have had the verve b n q soil but I've had 7 plants now all small not higher than my knee.
I'm using an hps 600w light and keeping it always 30inchs away from plant but none of my plants are growing tall at all, I've been using the bio bizz notes and unsure if that's whats doing it or to raise the light up higher or is it the soil not giving the plants what they need ...

I'll take a stab at not enough air getting to the roots chap restricting growth, so I'll take a punt at low to no perlite
When I started out using the bnq verve I found as the weeks passed by and the more you water it settles down and takes a bloody age to dry out
I say this because a few weeks ago I filled a few pots with Plant magic soil supreme for my autos and some with verve for outdoor plants and when all pots were watered the verve was like a bucket of cement where my plant magic pots were half the weight
If you've got to pot up or use the verve again for I'd have to add a good 20% + of perlite
Atb matey
Ps if you've already got plenty in ignore all the crap I just wrote
Humidity is around 50% , space size is about 1.5mx 2m , pots im using are 5gallon fabric pots , first grow was with b n q verve soil or compost and used lots of perlite in it, just because of the hps light I had them 30 inches away from plant but on my second grow now i have raised the light more to see ifnits because its not stretching properly ? Trial and error really trying to figure out. I use bio bizz nutes,
But on my first grow 3 of my sativas had a calcium def well the leaves was going brown and spreading... and only producing 1oz per plant,
Was watering so I could see run out
Coco coir... Soil is more difficult to control... Coco all the way.
