    Default New Growth turning purple

This Tangie plant is turning purple. The new growth is effected. When leaves grow out they are distorted somewhat. Using Fox Farm Nuts. Soil is sand and compost. Other parts of this plant has normal green growth. Are these future buds smokable?

Looks like temperature swing shouldn't affect the smoke adversely.

Phosphorus deficiency as a result of low temperatures as rightly said already

Some folk do this on purpose

So instead of cutting off all the purple, I let it bud out. Not only were the buds dark purple but the trichomes were purple too. I harvested and hung the purple buds. The purple turned into black and started to grow a gray mold. What a mess. I tried smoking a purple bud and it smoked and tasted like I was smoking a rubber boot. Real bad. I need to figure out how to stop this from happening next year. I did have 42 degrees on July 20th and always fed a phosphorous high fertilizer. Can you help? JOHN

I can safely say the purple colouring in the picture you provided has nothing at all to do with the grey mold it developed.

I've grown several plants with purple on the leaves and bud and none developed any mold at all.

Unfortunately, outdoor growing can be a challenge (depending on weather, location and time of year), and since we're not in 'control' of the environment ..this can tend to happen.

Purple colouring can be down to genetics but also can show when the plant is exposed to low temperatures, and as gardro pointed out a phosphorus deficiency...

I'll also add that some strains are more susceptible to mold and some are specifically resistant to them...or so some breeders say.

I've certainly done it a time or two, here's an example.

It's a little scary to Google your screen name and then look at the images and find that it's all you.
