    Default Cloning

Mornin all, I'm wanting to take some clones off this blue dream mother I've got and get them going for when I flip the mother so there's more than 1 plant in there for flower.

So after a quick google and a fresh gung-ho attitude, I snipped some shoots off the lowest branches and stuck them in small pots of moist soil. Got a blue cfl, small fan, humidifier and lil pc fan pullin air out of a cupboard I made a while back, where they sit now.

I read you needed to use clonex or something, have domes and tbf I've probably not cut them right, or cut the wrong thing. They already look dead lol, so I guess I'll need some advice after all.

    Mother plant

    Housin

    After 30 mins lol

Is there a sticky about cloning, had a look in a few sections but can't see oute

Hey MrC, in my experience clones often droop after cutting especially if they are slender stems but they usually pick back up again so no reason to think these are doomed.

Clonex contains a plant hormone that's supposed to encourage rooting called indole 3 butylic acid, I believe. Being a gel it also protects the cut end of the plant whilst administering the hormone. I have always used clones but I don't think it is essential.

I would normally clone into smaller containers to begin with bit am not sure how important that is.

Not a bad attempt to be fair MrCannab1sir..

So the best cuts to make would be on the vigorous growth near the top of the mother, below an internode, best cut at a 45 degree angle..then dipped into some clonex or similar rooting product.

I also feel like you would have more success in those root riot plug types, many use rockwool too, or a smaller container would help as said above.

I'd have the stem shorter than how you have them now bud, and you can cut some of the fan leaves and the reason for this is because these cuts do not have any roots, we need to minimise transpiration and slow down water loss, less leaf surface area helps.

    Example;

Get those domes on them, spray them, you're basically going to need to keep the leaves wet until they throw some roots down and won't need it so much...until then, they will be 'drinking' through their leaves.

High humidity is key at the early stages.

Nice one for those answers boys, detailed and informative, appreciate the effort. I'll have a look at getting some clonex and root riot plugs, venture to a grow shop. I'll give these a chance to survive. Humidity is 60% but not sure

I have anything big enough to use as domes, may need to grab some if they sell big enough ones. Cheers for the link, gonna have a look at the sticky thats about keeping a mother too.

Hi mate there isn't a need for clonex or similar altho it will help, you can root cuttings without having to use clonex ect. Ive got a propagater that has a pump in that splashes water onto the cuttings and it roots them fast usually take more cuts than you need and you should get at least one rooted ive never done your method tho so i look forward to seeing how it goes

Same here, my easy cloner will root a toothpick in 7 days.

Gonna have a play about with a clone box/propogator thingy this week. So does a propogator have to be airtight? Or has there got to be some small vents in it? Light outside the box I take it? Does humidity kinda regulate itself or am I best making a slot to feed a pipe to a humidifier? Need the cupboard for the mother.

My easy cloner does not use a cover over the top of the plants there's no attempt to control humidity for the vegetation. The main thing it does is it just hangs your bare end clones in a dark chamber where there's a water pump spraying water up on the base of the clones. If I use an interval timer that turns the pump on and off every 15 minutes and keeps the water in the cloner cool then I can clone in about 4-7 days.
