    Default Chiller question!

To use a water chiller do I have to use a RDWC setup? Right now I’m using four 5 gallon buckets with the “Drain to waste method” I’ve considering investing in a water chiller but need to know if I should turn my system into a recirculating system first or if I can just use it with my current setup

    Thanks!

I’m using Hydroton with Rockwool in 5 gallon buckets with 6inch net pot bucket lids

Fill some plastic soda bottles three quarters full of water and put them in the freezer. Drop one or two of the frozen bottles into each res as needed.

It's a pita but is a cheap option for short lived heatwaves like the UK has.

I considered this point when I wanted to use chiller with my nft tanks. My concern was how do you balance the water flow back into multiple independent tanks, or as in your case, buckets?

If you have a pump in each bucket, how do you make sure the chiller returns the correct amount of water to each?

In the end I decided risk of overflow etc was too high and just linked the tanks together and the pumps through the chiller turned it into a recirculating system. Wasn't too much work to do.
