Damn... You're right I was just looking and our epa says that asbestos is not found in all vermiculite but it's found in quite a bit and even in potting soil.

I'm currently using a perlite vermiculite mix. Perlite is fine once it is wet. It's the dust that is nasty. One technique is to take the bag of perlite outside, cut a slit in the top of the bag and pour in water.

If the pot has drainage, it's impossible to over water with 100% perlite as it dries out double quick. ime, never any dust from a pot of perlite that needs feeding again. Vermiculite is the opposite, it holds water very well. As I found out this grow by feeding 50/50 p/v twice a day and killing a plant through over watering. Before going over to coco, hempy used a 3/1 p/v mix for his buckets. My current plan is to use that and coco for a side by side next grow.

afaik, asbestos was found in one vermiculite mine which then ceased operations.

I'm sure I've noticed this when I first mixed up soil and washed the buds at harvest didn't happen second run but it more than likely settled in the soil more that round

Big thing since medical grade bud inspection.

See some folk with it on the top layer and fans blowing all over it. Stuck all over their trichomes. Nice.

I knew perlite dust/particles weren't good for the lungs, however, I do wash my perlite, but I guess it does crumble into smaller pieces over time, and some of it does rise to the top of the soil...I wonder now if I should avoid using it completely

Perhaps Fytocell is a good alternative.

Everything in life is a risk, like smoking bud but trying to re-find a youtube clip i stumbled on that showed how bad it was.

It all starts off like huge rocks so its fair to say it crumbles down and breaks up, definitely while under fans and heat and shit.

Personally i would be ok using it deep in the mix but none of that top layer stuff, fook that

You know where to get Fytocell? I'm having trouble finding it in the UK.

Unfortunately not, I've found one from the Netherlands, shipping is pricey too.
