600 hps with a wide angle reflector could light up a 4*4. So rather get another 400w for perfect coverage. Jmo

No man, its too small. But if u place in tents center
You will only lack light on the last 1ft of each side. You will cover 4*3 perfectly.

A 600w hps will just about cover 4'x4' but not all strains do well at 37.5w psf of hps.

I'm not a fan of using weaker light for vegging. Whatever they get for flowering, that's what I give them all the way through.

In your situation, I would start them under a 600w hps at one end and when they outgrew that, spread them out and turn on a 2nd 600w hps. That would be 67w psf and your airflow should be good enough to handle that.
