Default Do i LED or not?

    Hey guys n gals,

I’m an oldskool type grower and don’t really want to move from the beloved and trusted HPS system, however times are hard and I’m looking to claw back some money (all be it eventually). Now, I know LED use alot less electric, but how much of an impact would it have on my grow good or bad?

I’ve got just over 1m square to work with. 1010cm to be precise.

I’m currently running a 600watt hps. What could I run LED wise upto say, I dunno 400watts? Would I be better just using a 400hps or has LED panels got good enough to replace the hps?

Looking for your opinions and or prices for decent and trusted LED panels... It’ll soon be xmas and i dunno what else to ask the mrs for haha

    Thanks all

I've worked with lights (not grow ones though) for over 15 years and there is no question whatsoever about LEDs being more efficient than anything else.
They put out more light per watt than any other light source currently available.
Make the switch, you really can't go wrong with it.

I went from a 250w hps to an ish150 and got an increase in yield in the same space but then again my growing skills also improved (Slightly) haha. Better nugs all round too. Also seen a drop in elec bills. But I also now have to use heaters but still saving electricity. Much smaller scale than yours but same same but different innit.

I’ve just made the switch from HPS to Invisible Sun. I’ve not finished the grow yet but it’s looking great and temps are lovely. Sitting at 26c. Under growth seems better too

I’ve got around 7foot maximum headroom id of thought so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Which panels would you suggest?

Any of the new high ppfd rated leds,
Will use less electricity, to produce more yield.

Ive worked with a 600 / 1000 hps for years..

Max i got out my 1.2 sqm tent was a bit less than 700 grams with the 1k watts.

With a 500w (measured from power socket) lm301b, simplest fixture no reds, uv or anything else. I was able to yield a bit less than 800 grams.

    Thats 15% more yield
    With half the power.

Now running 750 watts (3 boards) on the same 1.2 space. See what it pulls..

    Ongoing diary >>> OGKZ / Gelat.OG / GZ / LSD (Coco, 750w lm301b)

I'm in a similar position. I have enough cmh ballasts and lamps to last me whatever number of years that I have left. So how long will it take for led to pay for itself with leccy savings over cmh/hps?

With the cheaper ones, it looks like about a year but there are reports of cheapos only lasting a year (or even less) for some. Not getting a good few years out of led negates the point for me. With a trusted brand name led, premium product at a premium price, it's looking more like 2 to 3 years.

Was your panel expensive? Not that it overly matters, where did you get it from? I wanna get one from a reputable source. Amazon and ebay are full of cloned panels
