Default Absolutely rubbish home made silencing fan box

So I turned my extractor fan on today, for 2 reasons, 1 , the plants are smelling, 2 the heat off the led lights is 29 to 30 degrees. It was very noisy so :
I made a box using cardboard, insulated it with heat insulating poly board and packaging air bubble material. The result is an affront to DIY, it has no silencing power whatsoever and doesn't even look good.
The positives are, no smell, and a nice negative pressure so fresh air is being drawn in..
The actual noise is coming from the filter and the exhaust ducting. I have ordered a very cheap fan controller from amazon to see if that helps. I will also get some ducting insulation tomorrow and see if that works.
Anyways have a look at my amazing feat of engineering .

Phonic trap ducting makes a big difference. In the meantime, try getting a towel, blanket etc and fold it so you can wrap it round the tin foil ducting, keep wrappin and it'll get quieter

I had to go down this route. And I would say. Only buy rvk fans. Phonic ducting. And make a decent box with thick ish wood. Fill with towel or similar. I made a home made silencer with a old carbon filter seems to do the trick. But get a controller as well. And you will be sound. I can’t even tell mines is switched on. It’s so quiet.

Think ill invest in one. My fan controller arrived today and that maee a big difference, however the trade off is less air is being sucked into the tent and heat is rising.

i had to remove the fan controller. the hum it made when in use was louder than the noise from the fan and filter at normal speed. plus, as it was an electric hum, there is more chance of it travelling through to next door.
