It's a choice between being broke now because the led light was very expensive or being broke later because the 600w hps sure does use a lot of leccy.

I'd recommend being broke later as with a first grow, there will probably be some street weed purchased before harvest. There are ways to spread out the leccy bill. Like don't answer the door to the meter reader. Leccy suppliers tend to be cool about spreading out the debt so when the bad news does arrive, a polite phone call to them will work well.

Once you know that you will be long term self sufficient , then it's time to think about using less power to get the same result, or better. The hps will then gather dust but knowing that there is a spare light if needed gives peace of mind.

I think depending on the size of the room you probably be better with cfl tbh i have done one in a walk in boiler cupboard and the heat was unreal trying to controls it as really the only place to drill was either the 2 side walls or the door for ventilation plus when you have the boiler on it adds to the heat also i would be careful with the hps lamps like as they do heat up and after a while i was turning my boiler on and it was making a gun shot noise everytime it it sparked not sure if it was cause the heat off the light or not but i would try avoid gas cupboards if you can you can get cheap tents for 60 quid prob best bet even a full kit that comes tent, light and your carbon filter for 189 shop around you will find somthing in your budget

Hey guys, so took everyones advice onboard. Ended up buying a 600w Ballest with a 600w hps, moved out of my boiler cupboard and off the kitchen work top. They are now in my my lofty cupboard with a fan. Still need to buy a actual extraction kit tho.
