    Default 1000w hps questions

So am I right in thinking I can but a Contactor, plug that into the mains and then connect whatever ballast I choose to use? Which leads me to my next question does anyone have any recommendations for a 1000w hps dual spectrum bulb and ballast to use together?

Thanks in advance for any help

Lumatek 1000w digital ballast with a 1000w Sunmaster bulb on a plug and grow timer if you go down the HPS route...I ran this setup in a 1.5 x 1.5 tent with 6 exodus cheese and hit 43oz without any effort, 7 and a bit oz per plant....Wouldn't have a clue about LED's never used them...

    Regards BL

If led interests you, take a look in @Dirty_badger 's den

    600w led = 1000w 400v double ended hps

I've ran 1kw hps in 4'x4' with a parabolic reflector. After a few grows, I went back to 600w hps. The extra heat means a higher reflector so some of the extra light doesn't get to the plants. I sure didn't get a 50% increase in yield.

I was growing photos that did ok with 37.5w psf (600w) but not all strains will. My 600w AK47 grow was disappointing and I'm sure it would have done better with 1kw.

For the ballast, I'd go for magnetic, preferably resin sealed. It is rare for a new grower not to change their light within a few years. Better to have a cheap ballast gather dust than an expensive digital ballast.

Dual spectrum lamps are quoted as having 15% more blue. 115% of not very much = not very much so only pay a quid or two more for them over plain hps.

Give us details of your space and you'll get plenty of advice wrt lighting.

    I'm thinking 1.5m x 1.5m tent and maybe 2x 600w dual spec hps?

Would I be better off using a didfent light for seedling / veg and just use one 600w hps for flower or would 2x 600w hps see me through from start to finish? Pronbaly be using sunmaster bulbs
