    Default The Chop!!!!

Probably stupid questions but if I start flushing my plants this weekend ready to chop the following Saturday...

Do I still water as normal on the Friday before chopping? (Plants are in coco).

Can just open the groom & chop whatever time I like? (The lights will be in the dark period having been on all night).

I am sure read something about leaving the plants in 24 hours or darkness before harvesting - Is this “a thing” or not?

Apart from that I think the rest is straight forwards.

    Cheers,

Hi mate, I personally wouldn’t water on the Friday but that’s just me.

Again, it wouldn’t bother me what time you chop them because your cutting them down there’s a lot of discussion about the 24 hours of darkness but I don’t see how that could change anything when you’ve taken months to get them to where they are.

Open the tent, get the scissors out and get snipping hope it goes well for you dude

I wouldn't water either. I've heard of the 24 hours darkness as well but have never tried it.

Hi there! Exciting times coming upto chop.
First plant I flushed for a week and chopped lights on due to rot on a bud so I got anxious- smelt like hay during drying which I put down to high levels of chlorophyll.
Next plant is in flush and nearly at end of 48hrs darkness.
The good smells seem to be stronger the longer lights are off so hoping for a better harvest myself.
I spose it's down to finding out what you personally prefer at the end of the day.
I'm also letting her dry out soil wise as herd it can push last min ripening but we will live and learn as we try these things
    Good luck buddy

Some people do from 24 to 72 hours of darkness before the chop, I do 24 out of habit. Some people don't flush at all some for a week + I go about 5 to 10% of the total flower time. I also chop entire plants in the darkness so they don't see itncoming.
If i didnt smoke i drink myself to death.

Interesting, so the not watering the day before the chop wasn’t as stupid as I thought

I guess I could easily set the timer for the lights to not come on Friday evening so the plants would have 24 hours of darkness before chopping on Saturday.

Gives me just over a week to do some reading on it.

    Thanks for the responses

There's good research available that suggests if you turn off your red light with LEDs and finish under blue for a day or two you get a much increased terpene profile and they're actually doing that in commercial grows. So I think there might be some merit in the darkness before harvest. Not getting any red light is comparable to not getting any light at all I would suppose

There's some dispute over flushing as well,a recent study reckons that flushing only removes anything from the medium as the nutrients are already in the plant.
I recently tried no flush except a last feed of molasses and PH'd water and noticed no difference compared to the days of 5 day flushes or 3 day flushes in coco.
I've tried the 48 hours of darkness before chop and found no difference as well, now I chop before lights on for photo's or when its chop day for auto's,it doesn't bother me and is not an issue.

Everyone has an opinion etc most have never tried different things because they are too scared to not do what they were taught or shown, these are things that you simply have to try yourself, like topping an autoflower that was always a big NO NO,I tried it on my last autoflower and pulled around 9.5oz dry compared to my best un topped auto which was 5oz dry.
Sometimes taking a gamble pays off and you learn something new, sometimes it doesn't but you still learn something.
