Default How different is growing in coco when compared with soil?

Heh folks. Just putting some feelers out here on this one. I want to soil grow but I am very curious about growing in coco. Here are my questions:
How do I use coco? Prepare it etc
Can I use similar nutrients to soil?
    If not why?
Is it anything like growing in soil when watering the plants? As in does it hold the water like soil?
Any advice on this process or set up would be most useful. I have never used coco before
There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go.

A lot easier to control, but more time consuming it's feeding everyday, nutes are different but canna range really straight forward to use, need a bit of extra kit that will set you back rough guess about £150 get bigger plants in my opinion, soils good to get use to the plants though, some can get it spot on with soil just not me

Coco is an inert medium that you need to add everything the plant needs to... it's not as hard as it sounds - but you will need some equipment that you don't need in soil. A decent PH & EC meter are the main things.

Coco is easy draining, you can't over-water it, as the excess will just drain out

Nutes? They do organic nutes for coco (God knows how they work as organic nutes tend to feed soil rather than plants!) but Canna Coco A&B will work just fine (with a dash of PK 13/14 towards the end of the grow)

Grab a bag of Canna Coco Pro plus (I'm not a Canna Coco rep, the stuff just works LOL) fill your pot & off you go

Obviously there is a little more than that but that pretty much covers the basics

It is as different as Day and night, when growing in Organic soil. All you do is water ever couple or three days or more. Coco it takes A lot of attention and watering twice A day from what I hear.

Very true hotshot! Coco does tend to need more attention, but once a day is sufficient... if you go to automation, multiple times a day is very possible

It's coming up to Remembrance Sunday (8th) & Remembrance Day (11th) - and I like to remember the fallen that freely gave their lives so that we could live ours free from tyranny (not sure what they would make of things today though!)

In the Commonwealth we remember our fallen soldiers on 'Poppy day' (11th Nov), usually by wearing a red Poppy. Australia have Anzac Day (25th April) - pretty much the same thing. Does the US have a similar thing?

We used to have something similar in the US The veterans of foreign wars would sell little silk poppies on a wire around armistice day every year. They had poppies made by disabled veterans and they put the money back into assisting them. But then the Vietnam war came along and all veterans were shunned and spit on and hated and they just quit doing it.

Coco is one of the media used in passive hydro. Passive meaning no pumps. Unlike dwc, nft etc.

With soil, you need to be able to read the plants. Which I fail miserably at. With passive hydro, you only need to follow instructions and the plant takes care of itself. Because others have already worked it out for us. Feeding every day is both a curse and a blessing. It can be a drag but the good news is that every feed resets the ec and pH. So the ec and pH of our nute mix only has to be within range for 24 hours.

To start, I'd strongly recommend only using basic nutes, like Canna Coco AB. No additives or supplements. Leave the add-ons until you are experienced enough to be able to tell what difference they make, if any.
