    Default New strains vs. old

I've been listening to pod casts that interview breeders, and there always talking about new vs. old strains of weed. It appears that old strains are less desirable based on their discussions.

Are new strains producing better quality of bud (tighter nodes & larger or simply more buds) or just introducing different terpenes for variety of smells/flavor? Or all the above.

I currently have three different strains of seed for my next planned grow, and they're all older strains. Am I missing out by not chasing down some of these newer strains?

Some of these newer strains are $25 per seed or more when buying a 10 pack, so it's an honest question, and I'm not looking to discredit their enginuity & efforts, just waiting to understand if the value is there. Clearly having a variety in life is desirable.

    Peace.

I don't have enough experience to comment on this matter. But I'm also very interested like yourself. I also love podcasts lol. Where can I listen to these podcasts talking about strains,??

It totally depends on what you're after, the really old strains were much higher in THCV which is very desirable for nerve pain. Plus when I've done clear or clearer extracts I don't find them to have as much of an effect as the full flower, so there's a lot more to a strain than the THC. It seems like most of these people that talk about new strains are always talking about how high the THC can go. I'm really more interested in the full complement myself.

Canibus lifestyle TV and Dude Grows Canibus (DGC), both on you tube. DGC has more breeder interviews, and that's where I sense the back handed compliments regarding older strains.

To be fair, they do rip on some of the newer strains as well, but it did get me a bit envious that I might be missing out on these newer strains.

I also want to understand the benefits of pain Mgmt that certain strains provide, as its important to leverage these ladies as much as possible. Such an amazing plant.

I don't know where you are buying your seeds, but 25 bucks A seed is Redickles. I would find me A new seed bank. There are tons of hybird's that are pretty much the same stone as the original strands, but with higher THC.

There is a whole set of cannabis snobs that like to buy really expensive seeds just so they can say they're doing something better than everybody else. Then there are legitimate breeders that are getting genetics and they're paying for the genetics just like cattle ranchers will pay a whole lot of money to breed their cattle to a specific bull.

I've not paid that, it was just the observation. hearing these breeders justify their costs also seems like major spin as well, but, you never know. Which is why I'm grateful for this forum and the feedback good people provide.

To a certain extent, breeder gets to choose a price for his/her strain keeping in mind they are competing with a market. Like Jingo stated, people will pay for good genetics. 25 a seed is a little excessive.
Generally sativas will cost more than indicas due to longer flowering times causing more work to create something new and worth while.
I like to consider myself more of an old strain grower. I like the idea of preserving certain strains that will maybe one day be lost in time.
