Default Melted and smoking water heater

I'm sick to death of buying absolute garbage from amazon and ebay now.

Just gone in the shed before to find my mother/clone area in darkness and also my timer for drip system stopped at 5am, not knowing what's triggered the trip i flicked it back on.

Smoke and a hissing noise coming from the temp controller of my water heater!!!

Thank god i had a garage consumer unit installed, fuse in the plug didn't blow just kept tripping out.

    This could have been serious

(I've got the 2 parts of my shed setup on different amp breakers)

I had a hailea 1 do the same thing years ago, stopped using 1 after that and just let it sit for a bit until I use it.

    'kin 'ell!!

That is scary. There was talk about "fire balls" (a football/soccer ball sized device that contains a fire smothering powder that explodes on contact with fire, thus putting it out) a while back, perhas that is a worthwhile investment.

I know electronics are not built like they used to, but this is not on. The heating pipe could have equally possible been in a tropical fish tank. An out of control thermostat could have cooked the fish before the safety tripped!

Glad you are safe and fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

I really hate anything like this, I'm at work 12hrs a day and i really don't want this sort of thing on my mind especially with a young family at home.

When i was growing with led and hand watering in soil my shed was running off an extension lead, now I'm using hps with lots of other gadgets i opted for a proper consumer unit and thank god i did.

It's the second item of electrical equipment that's failed in my growroom that's actually made me worry.

First was one of them monkey fans, burnt through the neutral wire then this heater melting.

If something happening to your electrical stuff could it be a power issue going into your shed? I bought a heavy duty extension and put it in mine I know its safer to do what you did but touch wood I've had no problems

    I hope not!!!

If there was a problem with my power supply surely it wouldn't just pick 1 fan and 1 water heater.

I had 3 small fans, 1 monkey fan and the other 2 clip on static fans and the monkey fan burnt out but other 2 are fine both supplied from the same socket.

Heater is on a different breaker to the grow room.
