    Default Measuring TDS and PH

    I'm a bit confused over TDS and PH readings, I'm on my second grow and have been simply measuring the run off straight from a clean drip tray, then I've read this;

    "To start your test, remove 3 fluid ounces of soil from around the roots and mix it with 3 fluid ounces of demineralized water in one of your measuring containers. Let this mixture stand for 24 hours but continue to stir it occasionally. This way you will make sure all the nutrients dissolve entirely.
    After everything in your solution has dissolved completely, pour it through a filter into the other measuring cup. Continue to repeat this process until you have a totally clear liquid. Now use your meter to determine the TDS and pH values of the soil your marijuana is growing in."

    Is this right, sounds very long winded?

    The only thing I ever used my TDS meter for is checking the total amount of nutrients in my water before feeding the plants. I've never done runoff and I've never even worried about what it was when I was growing soil. The only time I bother to check TDS is to get one time measurement of my background water and a measurement of total nutrients that I'm putting into the plant. The pH meter is really unnecessary in soil, with the exception that doesn't hurt to know what the pH of your background water is before you start growing.

    How many growers that are currently off their tits from toking their own have never read that?
