Just to clarify..If you are using a cheap coco it probably would be beneficial to use perlite because the crap coco contains a lot of dust it's actually second grade fines that is prone to compaction...Good quality coco has a high percentage of fibre strands. If you look at coco under a microscope it's hollow like a straw. My observations are related to high quality canna coco pro plus..I've done side by side using various mixtures with perlite, vermiculite, clays and never found any variation to be any better than using good quality coco on its own..

Not only that Val...Some of the substandard coco is processed in salt water lagoons, this is why it needs pre conditioning, flushed, neutralised, Ph adjusted etc...Canna coco pro plus comes already processed, steamed to kill any parasites and comes with added tricoderma ready to use right out of the bag..

    Thanks...

I knew about the salt so I washed mine silly. Believe it or not mine had sand in it, yes, sand. Must have been newbie luck as my plants are still alive and no WPOTM yet, without any of the pH-ing or pest-killing. Now I wished that I had added the perlite now... I have neem on stand by as well as some evil concentrate from Bayer, but lets see how it goes.

Canna coco pro going on the Wanted list for 2021...

sand is great for drainage so wont do any harm, I know a lot of growers who add sand to their mixes
