Alright folks I’m goin to get goin with a couple in coco this time round. And I’m wondering how many add perlite to coco and does it provide any Benefits. Or could I just throw in some clay pebbles and it do the same job. ? Cheers.

  2. "I used to use rapid start root stimulant with my coco plants and it benefitted significantly. I found 30% perlite and coco would get the same fast start for way less money. Perlite is great in 5 gallon fabric pots, maybe not so great in smaller pots. I can't think of any good reason for pebbles mixed in, but I ALWAYS put a 2 inch layer of well washed pebbles on top to create a barrier for thrips and root aphids it also helps add oxygen as the water cascades through the pebbles. You really don't need it unless you want unusually large yields. Pellets on the bottom is also good if your plants sit in the waste water, but not the best option in my mind.

Before I recently bought canna coco plus I actually read a quote from BL saying not to pack it down too tight as it gives the roots more of a struggle when reaching out. Good job because I would have put a boxing glove on to pancake the coco layers when filling the pots lol

I find perlite helps in seedling and early veg. It seems a faster with a 50/50 perlite coco

Perlite in coco is not essential but won't hurt anything if you do use it

Make sure to rinse it thoroughly before adding if you do.

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

Would it make any difference if I just used a bit of clay pebbles. Is it purely for aeration ? Ordered coco before. Don’t think I’m goin to bother with the perlite thanks for all the comments folks.

Coco has excellent drainage Uv How many are you doing mate? Try half with added clay pebbles and half without, I would be surprised if there was any difference.

Are you buying Canna pro+ Uv? it's one of the best available, with Canna A+B it's very straight forward. Just be aware that a lot of other coco has high sodium, and needs a lot of rinsing, then buffering. Best to use Canna pro + or Plant Magic coco.
