    Default Fungus gnats

My next door neighbour leaves parts of mice that he doesn’t feed to his birds in a pile as well as other rotting food.
I’ve learnt over the years to close my back window when I pull my plants out to water them.

It’s very possible I didn’t do it on a couple of occasions.
Witch I’m mad with myself for not remembering.

I caught a nat last night in my room outside the grow room however it’s either the odd one or they got hold & I didn’t notice. Witch ever way I should get some nat mix witch is like pertlite you put it on the top & suffocate them & it rips them up when they try to climb through it. However I see it’s no longer available they replaced it with other stuff that I would rather not add to the soil.

Have any of you used Fungus Gnat Predators (Hypoaspis Miles) or Diatomaceous Earth the latter is it a safe organic product that won’t make any difference to end of harvest taste or have any other properties I should know about ?

I think I would prefer the predators unless the Diatomaceous Earth is nothing to fear the predators are expensive though so are they any good ?

I might have just found the odd one thing is even without plants my bathroom will get full of them esp in the summer when I have to leave the windows open so it’s better to know now than to know when if I do have a problem & can’t get any Nat mix.

I’ll have to search & find another source of Nat mix if I can as a back up.

Diatamaceous earth is amazing. So many uses. Fine to use on your plants to prevent gnats, great wormer for dogs/horses, flea powder for dogs/cats, ant killer. Its edible for humans etc etc.

Best to pre mix with your soil as a preventative but works great as a top dress for the gnats too. Just a light dusting on the tops of the pots, too much and it will set like concrete when ya water :P

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

If you can get mosquito bits, you'll never have problems with fungus gnats again. You can mix it in with your soil you can make teas with it you can put it in your res. Some manufacturers are putting it in the soil so you don't even have to worry.

My spellings dire gnats not nats. Thanks for not judging me for it. Had two eye ops as I was seeing double at one point & had two years away from school back then you just got the cane no excuses so catching up was hard. Done so in a lotta areas bar spelling. Was funny looking back not at the time though. Sitting on the imagery chair & falling on my butt or trying to open the door & the other wacky stuff that came with seeing two of one thing.

didn’t find anything flying in the room atm. Not to say there’s nothing in there I’ll find out soon either way, when they dry out & I water them if there’s any babies they jump ( for joy ? ) when you water them or find flying ones.
Either way it’s better to be prepared esp with the looming danger from that pile of rotten food & being organic.

Got some d. Earth got 2kg for £8 looked in the hydro £20.00 for 200grams wow what a mark up. I could of got 10kg for £18 !
The stuff I got is a brand name as is the hydros mind they we’re trying to charge £35 for predators were you can get them for £10 or cheaper.
