I took off the 1st node and topped the farm up with pebbles like Kro suggested.
I measured the EC and ph while at it. Well what I thought was under fed turns out it's over fed and a high ph
    EC 1.1
    Ph 6.5
I took a mop bucket out of the res and put the same quantity back just normal tap water which is EC 0.4 and Ph 7.3 the system is running at the minute so gonna check in an hour on the levels.
I also rinsed the pebbles in ordinary tap water too.

go with a fresh res change. EC 0.8 and ph 5.5. check levels every few hours to see what its doing.

when checking later, dont measure the first bit in the tube. drain that bit out first.

    Ok gotcha mate
I thought it could give me different readings so I checked when I drained into the mop bucket before I dumped it down toilet and was there or there abouts same as bud.
I'll do a res change in the morning and hit it with them figures.
Did you finally drill afew holes around the top to be able to tie it down or did you just keep it as it is?
I don't really want to but seems the right think to be able to tie it down and hold it well as she grows.
Should I pop an airstone in the res tomorrow when doing the res change. Atm I'm just letting the air drawn from the dripper do the water movement along with the odd blow into the measuring tube.
    Cheers Kro

airstone is a must. i ran 2 large in my big farm. always on.stick pump outside tent and ideally above water level f the res.

as for tying dow, i used drawing pins along the side of the top pot. close to the edge. i was using sewing thread at the time so tied it round them but you can get some of these which are better..

obv dont use sewing thread. get some green soft ties. loop round the head of pin and bobs your uncle.

how many nodes do you have now?

i recommend getting your self to 5. then top above the 5th and remove the lower one again.leaving you with 4 main branches. let these grow up a bit then tie them down. training them out to wards the edge of the pot. when this happens i top all 4 and watch as all that would of been lower growth now become your main tops.

heres me explaining it to soly when mentoring him in coco... funny i used the farm image as an example.lol.

this is how i like to do it.
1 and 2 is the ways in which each node can grow on each of the sideways growing branch. if it grows like no2 and one comes from the bottom of branch curling upwards (blue top), i cut it off and leave the other one(red top).
if it grows like no1, i can choose to keep both if say i only started with 2main nodes instead of 4 like you did, this helps fill the space more. but as i like to start with 4, i only keep one (red top). i repeat this for every branch.

the birds eye image shows end result. red tops being all the ones i left. and blue being the optional ones i could leave and train.

something to note. if red tops coming off the main branch start getting too big. pinch the tops in between the newest nodes to stunt growth on that specific one allowing other time to catch up. or you can just train them.

this next image show roughly what the structure will look like after harvest. at this point i was still learning myself. but you can get an idea of what to aim for for each branch.

at this point its a bit late but next time you can top each one of the main branches too. so it splits into 2 at the end. as you can see in above pic on the left branch. only if you have time for it to grow out a bit before flipping.
note. this one was my 2nd attempt and not the one from my diary i was mentored on. you can see i filled the res that time. i also snapped a main stem or 2. it could of been bigger.

    here she is before chop..

if only i knew about the schwazz back then.

Excellent diagram mate. I had 4 nodes but 3 now I took the bottom one off in order to fill up to the lip with pebbles. What airstones would be best to get? I have 2 golf balls and 2 cylinder type ones but I'll grab whatever you know works best. I also have a choice of airpumps 1 is a single output without adjustment dial and the other is a double with a adjustable dial.
I did drill afew more holes in the bottom of the pot

ill try a get into storage one of these days and take a pic. but you want alot more holes than that. you also want to widen them a bit.

i used the disc shaped airstones.
as for the pump, i used a blagdon koiair pump. its what i was told to get at the time. come with a valved manifold with i think 8 ports. adjustable flow in each.
done me well on on water farm and just as well with 2. each with 2 airstones and dripper connected until roots establish.

not too sure about how much airflow but you want it to gently bubble. too much and it can effect the roots. it can also make the PH rise quicker depending on air quality and temp. keep are around pump as cool as pos.
