    Default Soil PH keeps rising

Hi all, soil keeps rising back to around 7.5/7.8 ph after using water with and without nutes ph'd to 6-6.3. Had this issue last grow, so this time round I used half/half of the multipurpose with added john innes, and a ericaceous soil, in the hope that the acidic soil would help keep PH at optimal level. When I first did the mix of 50/50 soil and then 70/30 soil/perlite it was around 6.5-6.9 ph (I say around as I have one of those meters that has a needle and the gaps are 6/7/8 etc). I've noticed that this soil is also drying out a lot quicker than the previous grow. I'm using root nurse fabric pots now, but before I was using a fabric pot that was unbranded so assumed the difference shouldn't be that much?
I'm using Plant Magic Old Timer Grow, magne-cal at the moment, at about half of what it recommends as I'm growing autoflowers.

    any ideas?

Not really sure why you're bothering to pH the water for a soil grow but each to their own. I would imagine though, that the soil is just battling to maintain its natural pH despite the water that you're adding. There's absolutely NO science behind what I've just typed but that is the impression I get.

Just doing what I've read on various places. Surely you gotta make sure the water isn't a high ph cos that'll increase ph levels in soil? Or am I completely missing the point here. Assume there's a section for soil growing so I'll go take a look there. Being the ph it is, there'll be nutrient lockout won't there?

Tap water from the UK is almost certainly fine to use without the need to piddle around with the pH. The good stuff in the soil will sort your water out...buffer the pH.

Agree here with herb. Your going to get hooked on numbers if you start measuring ph and once that takes hold, the devil has you!
The trick is in these pots that let the roots breathe is to keep a good dampness in that root zone. Let it dry out, and you will loose the ph balance and your going to be chasing your tail. I prefer to drip feed when lights are on. Mine get fed from 2000 to 0400. Lights on at 1800 off at 0600.
