    Default Contactors and timers

I know this has been done many times before but I need a setup so my 2 x (upto 600w) hps and 1 x 240w led can be plugged into 1 place and that be on one timer. I'd have to have this leading back to an extension lead so I could fit 2 sockets in 1 place.

In my mind one of those plugs go into the timer, then the timer and the other plug will both go into my extension lead, but I'm sure that would be too easy I've looked at the box units with timers but for a 3 way it's more than I wanna pay atm. minimum of £45 for a reliable 3 way with no timer

I use digital timers £20 for 4 and each timer holds a load of 2400w! I've never had a failure as of yet I also must use a standard 5way extension with circuit protection

I have used standard timers but one went on me a few days ago, luckily had a spare but it makes no difference as I still have to get up to turn the 3rd light off Been wingin since I started, think it's about time I got somethin proper setup. One that failed was one of those with a dial, also had an digital timer just stop working for no apparent reason

Mine was a Diall or EverFluorish, specc'ed to do 2000 watts. Did not even like 180 watt, it would switch itself off even when it's been set to be on.

Honestly your best off getting large load timers regardless of what your running, manual dial contractors are rubbish IMO, get 4 digital timers from screw fix £20 as opposed £10 for the big daft things from hydro shops, I've been using the same 4 timers now for 3 years without failure, get some bought and stop turning that 3rd light off before you forget one day

When the mechanical one went, I'd flicked the switch to 'on' to turn the lights on a few mins early, then when I switched it back to timed it just clicked and the bulb went out lol, so not the most reliable

Mine was a b&q 1 I think, might be a memory thing with digital, they seem to work well till you change to something else?

Could be, but mine was like 7 or 8 quid, I doubt it's that clever as you've described!

I hate reading posts about timers and what can potentially happen. Gets me slightly paranoid lol.
