A professional that grows one way,or guys that have grown with certain lights,nutrients,mediums,etc..and pages and pages of actual real life grow diaries.
Most books are now pretty dated, the basics remain the same but lighting, and plants have come along way in recent years.

Yup, it's true. Whenever I read smthng old about lightning systems related to this domain, I always try not to take it into consideration. Like you said, much has changed!

The grow guides are confusing because they comprise many differing opinions and a fair amount of outdated info. The main focus is on 'more yield' not 'healthy plants'. What the grow guides don't tell you is that yield chasing carries a very real risk of lower yields. If it can adjusted, it can be adjusted wrong. Without experience, it is easy to get fixated on aspects of growing that are of little importance to us. I did a lot of reading before starting my first grow. I read how important CO2 was. Wish I hadn't. I had sleepless nights for weeks worrying about how to make sure they got enough CO2. All the grow guide had to say was: 'Good airflow will help to keep your plants healthy.'

If the aim is self sufficiency rather than maximum yield, then more space means less skill needed to get there. My last cellar grows yielded about a kilo each* and there was nothing I did that couldn't be done by a first timer. McJob grows. Of no interest to new growers, they want to try for more yield rather than get guaranteed results.

Following only one grower is the way to go at first. Taking ideas from here there and everywhere because 'more yield' has put many a new grower on the road to frustration and heartache. I never started like that. Honest.

420lol, how much weed are you looking to consume on average? 6oz a year? 52oz a year? How much potential grow space do you have? Budget?

Simple, uncomplicated method with basic instructions go for Justin Griswell, Growing Autoflowers, Indica, Sativa. If you wanna know more and become hooked the book ive read the most is Marijuana Botany, an advanced study: the propagation and breeding of distinctive cannabis. Robert Clarke.

Completed Mentor Diaries section on here has excellent step by step guides also.

How would OP rate the grower of these 2 week old clones on the hero scale? (They're bought in clones. Small orders get the scrag ends of big orders, hence the lack of uniformity.)

The grower is a young lad that isn't technically minded. It is unlikely that he will have any failed grows because he doesn't know how to try for more yield. Every grow, he repeats what he has been taught to do.
