    Lightbulb Lamp operating position

    Heya,

I ordered a MH bulb without realizing the documentation stated the bulb be positioned horizontally (HOR).
All I have is a vertical mount parabolic...

Gathered that running this vertically could cause some color shift along with reduced life, but would it be hazardous?
I can try finding something Universal or vertical base up if necessary. Thanks.

    A good question!

It used to be that with HPS bulbs you could get ones only to be used vertically or horizontally - you tend not to hear of them now...

But MH? If it says only to use horizontally then I'd either do that, or change the bulb to something that says it'll work anyway up.

...what price for peace of mind?

    Thanks for the input, MC!

Totally agree. Safety first. Was just hoping to get lucky and read "No problemo, fire it up!"
Already went through plenty of troubleshooting making sure the breakers were correctly labeled (they weren't) so that amperage loads were safe with ~20% headroom; not gonna start getting sloppy now.

That's the thing mate, it possibly is fine... but unless you know that for sure, carry on being cautious!

One thing you could do is email the bulb manufacturers asking what (if any problems) you may face having the bulb vertically

Heres me thinking HOR = horticultural all along.

I've just checked the box on a power plant mh it says universal.

How do you find the parabolic?

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, Trich.

I'll give PowerPlant a look. Thanks.

I ended up going with Plantmax for MH (7200K) and HPS (2000K) ~$90 total.
They seem to have a decent reputation, both bulbs are universal, and the seller is actually 20 minutes away.

Haven't heard back from the other seller. Just gonna ship it back.

    Thanks again, guys.
