Has anyone used a dB meter or an app on their phones to see how loud their grow system is? What reading did you get?

Mine's at 50 dB right up close to the fan and I am thinking that it might be on the border. Can't hear it outside and if the door is shut it's inaudible.

But what about the neighbours in a block of flats?

Do fans get noisier as they get old? Would checking the dB levels of them be any use as to gauge the wellness, or remaining life expectancy of the fan?

I get you, some people are just intuitive like that... but I am not LOL.

It's like going "nose blind" where we build some tolerance to the smell. Same thing with noises.

Sticking to the rule of "Six Ls" is good but I am looking at the deci-BEL to be sure.

Just to add decibels are on a logarithmic scale so you really dont want a big number

Increase of 3dB is doubling the sound

My whole ventilation system is in question ATM... I'll let everyone know whether it is ID10T error or wear in the system when I'm done my investigations... noise wise, things don't seem to have changed

I have 3 different fans, 5,6,8 inches and depending on 2-8 plants for which I use.

Last I measured at constant low level they're about 50-95 dB. If I whack em inside some cardboard wrapped in a duvet or packing foam it drops to about 10-30 give or take. As long as they're off the floor.

Equally if you want the best for sound damp you want phonic trap ducting and keep it as straight as possible

My 6" runs at 39 decibels full chat. I have it at 30% and its not audible sat in the same room 2 feet away from the fan. I have the fan and filter outside the tent. I use phonic trap ducting with it, comes out the top of the tent bends sharp 180 degrees and runs down to the floor to the fan, about 8 foot length in total

Cool, do you use one of those AC Infinity fans?

Just stood next to my tents 2 x 5" rvk, both boxed and on top of the tents, probably about 1.5mts of ducting on both

Thanks, Easy. Gonna get a new fan then. 50 dB is totally masked when talk radio is playing in the back ground, but late at night it is a worry in a block of flats.
