Great thread! After watching the results you guys were getting I've started topping my autos at the 4th node too and it works wonders!
I'm growing an auto haschisberry and an auto bubblegum and both plants are doing great after being topped.

    Im the new guy.

Does every plant have approx 5 or 6 nodes ?
On autos how many weeks do the all nodes take to appear ?

And a node is basically a set of branches that go sideways., right ?

    Thanks

How many nodes a plant has is a little like asking how long a piece of string is

Usual caveat I don't know what I'm doing.

I topped my current auto on day 20 after I potted the seedling (which was 28 days from planting the seed) and it was just above node 5. Pictures of the plant in my sig.

As the others have mentioned unfortunately there's no hard/fast rules as every grow and every plant is different.

With an auto you have to be very quick and watch it closely to pick your time. They grow fast enough that I estimated I had a 3 day window. I read everywhere for an auto it's either node 4 or node 5. I chose 5 for no other reason than I missed node 4.

    Hope that helps

Hey new guy. Yeah, a node is when you have a pair of leaves then shoots leaving the main trunk.
I find that I normally end up topping at around day 17 or so when I'm taking the 5th node off, then the first, leaving 3 nodes.

    Cheers
