EC confusion

My pen is reading my water as 1.6 is this normal?
After adding a small amount of feed it’s up at 2.0 so I assuming it’s actually 0.4 unless I’m getting things wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated please.

Sounds like a problem with the EC pen..what brand is it?

It does sound way off for sure.

The essentials are usually solid..you can purchase some EC calibration fluid just to be sure once you've tried replacing batteries ;

Try cleaning the probe, it could have salt residue on it..

Right it was the battery it reads 0.1 now after I used the conductivity fluid.
So is 0.1 my actual nites level?
I’m not understanding this back ground ec thing.

Put some water directly out your tap into a glass and measure the Ec, that's your background Ec..
