Does anyone on here keep bonsai mothers?

I’ve read Oldtimer1’s article on them and it was really helpful, but I’m thinking bonsai pots like in the 1 st pic would be better than the narrower deeper pots (pic 2) in his article? Im thinking it should make root trimming a bit easier.

I’m planning to keep them as house plants. With low wat led IKEA vaxer bulbs to keep 18/6

    Any tips are appreciated.

    Thanks

    It is cannabis.

Bonsai is a style of growing not a plant type. Most of the mini bonsai trees you see would be huge if planted in a garden.

You can keep mothers small and take cuttings for up to 5 years.

I’ve never grown in soil before.

Is biobizz light a good choice for mother plants?

Hey J, have you done any bonsai in your past? Before I started messing about with cannabis, I had a small bonsai garden. Sold my stock off when I moved unfortunately.

As far as bonsai moms... I think you should pioneer this effort!

    Cheers,
    B

No experience of bonsai what so ever bro.

I seen oldtimer1’s guide to growing cannabis bonsai style and I haven’t got much space for mother plants.

Yeah it'd be nice to keep moms but space being a premium, I fear few of us will be able to. Could you maybe take a clone from successive plants towards the same end?

Sorry I don't have an answer. Here's my thought on moms though. You only keep the best phenos for moms. The strongest growers and the best bud producers... unless you're some psycho brilliant breeder who wants to target a specific trait... anyhow, by stunting the mother into a bonsai, you're gambling since you've never seen what it produces. At that point, you're no better off than popping seeds. *buffering* So then, take a clone of a pheno you want to preserve and THEN make it a bonsai? Why not grow the sumbitch and clone it again?

    I dunno.

By the way, 'bonsai' in the most strict definition is "tree in a pot"... We're technically all growing bonsai!

i used to do this with genetics i grew from regular seeds. great way to keep long term.
i find most regular seeds can take some serious neglect and would suit bonsai just fine.

nowadays i use feminised seeds and its just easier to clone before flipping to flower. by the time flowering is done you will have a well established plant.
and if you're taking a break or want to try another strain, you can just clone again so you dont have to maintain a big mother.
