Hi. New to growing. A few questions.

Hi guys,

Really interested in growing cannabis.

The room I rent out is small, and has a cabinet for hanging clothes. Dimensions are about 50x50x120cm or 20x20x47 inches.

I'm thinking of growing a single White Widow feminized plant in the cabinet.

I'm on a really tight budget, so can't afford a place of my own or a very expensive LED light .

I have a few questions for people who have been in my situation / experienced folk:

1) Will 2 50Watt UFO pendants be enough for a single white widow plant ? Here is the breakdown of light:

142 mol @ 0.5m
76.4 mol @ 1m
45.8 mol @ 1.5m
40.2 mol @ 2m

2) I'm really worried about the odor the plant will release at flowering. I was thinking of buying ONA gel like substance and putting 2 plates with a lot of the stuff on each plate, next to the plant, on the floor. And perhaps one plate above the lights. I live with a lot of other people and cant have the odor being released outside my room. Will keep my 2 windows fully open at all times. Please let me know if the ONA gel like substance is good enough for 1 plant.

3) I want the plant to be about 60-80cm (24-31inches) in height, what size pot should I get for this desired height, and any guesses as to the yield with my given lights that I want to use ? How much smell will the plant produce at this height during flowering ?

4) Will I need to keep my cabinet open all the time ? Or can I close it sometimes or all the time ? I know fresh air is important, just really worried about the smell escaping and people knowing what I'm doing (Especially the landlord). I really hope ONA gel is enough!

That's about it guys. I've NEVER grown a plant before, this will be my first time doing this (Although I grew a small weed plant in high school, but my dad told me to rubbish it .

ANY advice or answers to the above questions will be of great help to me and I would really appreciate it.

ONA gel alone will not be enough I'm afraid. And you should never have ONA gel in the same room as your plant, it can ruin your weed.

If all goes well the smell will definitely be your main problem mate. I'd look into some sort of extraction and filter.

By the sounds of it, you haven't bought the UFOs yet? Can I ask how much each that they cost?

Don't post a link, but an Amazon or Ebay item number would be useful to have a quick peek at what you're buying.

Alright mate, daunting aint it. You will definitely need an extractor fan and filter, I think 4 inch is the lowest size. A few weeks in and it'll al ready start to stink. Like Herb says, put a description or copy and paste the title of the lights and where from so ppl can have a look.

I've got a 50cm wide tent, I'd recommend a 7.5 or 10 ltr pot and then just train the plant with topping and LST. If you decide to go ahead then stick around and start a diary when you have the kit and ppl will be here to help all the way through.

If you're doing a photoperiod , when it comes to flower it'll need 12 hours of complete darkness so the door will need to stay shut then. The longer the doors open the longer it'll smell

It's these herb they have them in the growshop £10 for 170g tub it is really strong and pungent and not bad to have around the house but I can't say I'd risk me liberty or a rubber glove up my trumpet but you could maybe get away with it with some low odour strains if that's such a thing all though I found fast buds LSD auto has been a very low odour plant when growing but comes alive with diesel once it's jarred but only you can answer what your worth risking we all have our limits of paranoia even with all the extraction kit we still get a case of the jitters or even a round of the eartha Kitts when there's an unexpected knock on the door

The short answer to starting with a VERY tight budget is don't. Give up luxuries like food and shoes until you have saved enough to give yourself a decent chance of getting a yield worth having.

The only way to be 100% odour free is to have the air in the grow space go through a fan and carbon filter without any unfiltered air going into the room. If you pin your hopes on an odour neutralising gel and the smell overpowers the gel, do you have the guts/common sense to abort the grow as soon as that happens? I didn't with my first harvest and only got away with it by sheer luck plus a fierce diy ozone generator that got it down from 'fucking reeks' to 'smells bad'.

The old tv show Batman had a running gag where Batman and Robin were alerted to a crisis and calmly discussed it like they had all the time in the world. Then, when they'd talked it through, would run off like scalded cats. Many newbies start their first grow like that. Months of studying and planning and once they do start, everything has to happen double quick.

If you've never grown anything before, start with house plants right now. It won't cost much, even if you buy a couple of grown plants along with seeds, pots and soil. Far better to kill cheap plants through inexperience than expensive cannabis genetics. Also, your roomies will get used to seeing a part used bag of soil in your room. Also buy a bag of hemp seeds and try germinating them with the paper towel method. Put those that do crack into small pots of soil and try to keep them alive. Cull them as soon as they get too big. Then, by the time that you do have the budget to start properly, you'll already know how to grow plants in soil.

Does your room have space for an extra wardrobe? If so, ask around if anyone has one they're looking to get rid of.
