can you explain it better and go a bit more in detail?

All my replies keep getting long winded. In short, for a first grow, passive hydro is the least problematic and active hydro the most.

As you have a spare bedroom, you're golden. Having plenty of space makes becoming self sufficient so much easier. Best to start where you want to end up and work backwards. How many ounces a year? If you quadruple your current consumption, that will be close enough for now. What's the budget?

If you wish, I can mentor you wrt getting your room ready to grow. I'm a minimalist so don't be expecting fancy bells and whistles.

It's the plants that know their stuff. My area of expertise(?) is the setup. Get that good enough and leave the girls to get on with it.

To use a baking analogy, buy a bread maker and some packets of bread mix. Follow the instructions and you get edible loaves. While others would be adapting the bread mix and/or creating their own recipes, I'm the guy who stays with the bread mix and tries bread maker vs regular kitchen oven. Or a wood fired oven. What about a solar oven? Can bread be made in a microwave?

    Are you a tester?

Not a tester, I got obsessed with trying out new setup designs. I've almost grown out of it now.

If you would like a 6'x6' 9 plant scrog, I just happen to have...

My first grow was in a ebb and flow system and I reached 1g per watt, it was in a 60cmX60cm closet under a 400w HID.

I went by the book, nothing got overlooked, no stone left unturned. As a mather of fact I never really got as a good grow as the first time, or at least very seldom, which is so odd and a little bit hard to take in, because I thought it was always going to be as easy as that first time.

But then I guess I monitored everything with like one hour intevalls and yeah, that kind of dedication is hard to put in a project over a 15 year period.

Always do what others suggest is my best tip, dont try to figure out the wheel. Its already been figured out by others before you.

If you blindly follow, eventually it will be off a cliff...
You should ask why. Why not, why this and not that, how it works, why it works what can be done to achieve the same but with less effort.

Reinventing the wheel is a bad analogy, it implies there is nothing to improve upon. There's always something to improve on, learn and develop.

If you learn why things work that way you can apply that knowledge elsewhere.

The wheel may have been invented but all of its uses are not.

You might also want to consider how much water you'll need. Soil uses the least amount, which might be better if you're on a second or third floor etc.

Aero is a subset of hydro, just like fallponics, aquaponics, dwc, rdwc, coco and rockwool.

Someone above mentioned trying soil first. I would highly disagree with that. I myself have never grown in soil and am thankfull I didnt waste my time with it.

Start with DWC, not AERO. When you master your dwc bucket, which will be about the end of harvest, you will be mad, and hate hydro lol. Its alot of work, and dwc is irritating. Yet then, now your ready for a RDWC build, or your aero build. But for sure, go build you a simple dwc system.

    Good luck

At the end of the day you get varied opinion.

Soil is the most hands off but it takes a while to sort out problems.
Hydro is grow by numbers (feed, pH, EC, airflow, temps)

Hydro is easier for newbies but people recommend soil for some reason. I went Coco which is a passive hydro. I hand fed for like 3 weeks and though nah fuck that and bought a iws system and collected the run off in trays (used that in the garden) plants exploded in growth.

    Every medium has its drawbacks.
    Soil gives the best terpines
    Hydro gives the largest growth
Both can be as strong or as weak as the other.

Going organic will also mean better flavour profile and you can do passive hydro organically, it's costly though.
