TV licence

At the start of the year I decided to finally cancel my TV licence and deal with what ever consequences came of it. There's been a snowball effect of hatred toward the bbc and TV L that's gained a lot of speed over the last cple yrs. Why should anyone be forced to pay for something they may not even use, it's infuriating. I have no sky/virgin, the TV aerial is disconnected because it's never received a stable signal and I've never been bothered enough to see to it. So no bbc gets viewed in this house. Yet I still have to pay £150 a year? For what?

So after headin to youtube and watching a fairly convincing bloke tell me to just cancel the debit and ignore them, that's exactly what I did.

Firstly got the inevitable 'Direct debit cancellation' notices, then as you can imagine I had a few reminders then a cple red letters telling me I could be fined up to £1000 yada yada. Then in March I had a letter pushed through the door, not by the postman, it was mid afternoon and there was no knock, just the letter, I know there wasn't a knock as I heard the letter box so therefore would have heard a knock. This was a super serious 7 day warning letter that I need to get a licence or be fined/prosecuted what ever words they use, and that I'd get another visit. Another visit? Guy must have had incredibly soft hands...

Anyway, today the door knocked and as I was expecting asda delivery I answered...Tv licence fella. So rememberin my trainin off the confident youtube fella, this is how the convo went

TV : "Mr Smith?"
Me : "Who are you?"
TV : "Mr Smith??"
Me : "WHO ARE YOU?"
TV fumbles in his folder "TV licence"
Silence as the door shuts
TV : "Mr Smith can I have a word" Fading into the distance as I walk down the hallway back to my joint

No letter, or further knockin.

I'll keep it updated, see if I fuck myself or not lol, education if nothin else

That doesn't make any since. By what you saying, I could just make up something and bill you for it, and if you didn't pay report you to the police. What Country you live in? That sounds awful straing to me.

The uk is full of shit! Charges you for everything even to get your own fucking money out the cash point! Only thing free here is our health service and that’s getting sold off! So be like us soon where we have to pay for healthcare

Shit, I'd take free healthcare over free TV stations any day of the week. I don't seem to use either, both because of the cost.

We don't pay for TV here in the US, just put up A 30.00 dollar atten, and all the free programs you want.

Out here in Washington we have TV associations which are nonprofit member owned organizations that rebroadcast on repeater channels. If you want to put up an antenna and receive the broadcast you're supposed to pay them $45 a year. I would be happy to pay $45 a year if I could actually receive over the air channels, but I can't.

Exactly mate, I think it's rare police get involved but they just try to scare ya into paying. Like Farmer says, they have to catch you but have no right to enter your home, so just ignore em lol

Wish we had something like that in place, all we have is fire sticks and pay for view like Netflix Brit box etc and even then Netflix is not the same! Media sucks full stop

This is fascinating to me. Never heard of this licensing tactic before. Next time the bloke comes to the door, if he does, go to the door with some dark sunglasses on. Tell him you're blind and can't watch a damned thing on the TV. Bonus points if you walk into the door jam a few times. That should fuck him right off lol.

Believe it or not, the blind still need a TV licence if they listen to live broadcasting... but they do get a discount (FFS!)
