So even just checking the roots could have that much of an impact on them? I am not checking them daily or anything like that. Didn’t know it would actually even affect roots that much.
When I’ve checked the roots I have just turned the plant upside down and put the stem between my fingers allowing the coco to come out the pot.

I will leave them in the pots them and stop checking. They’ve already been in these pots for about 3 weeks now I would say. Will have to upload some photos tomorrow. This stage I’m more concerned getting good healthy roots than finishing the actual plants. Having already lost one to over watering.

It may have been lost to root damage rather than overwatering.

Lol I would agree but wasn’t no roots there. It was up and looking fine but then after a watering looking terrible. You could be right though as the others was being treated the same and look fine. I am going to leave the coco in the pots and not check on things just to see how they come along.

I don't feed everyday at the beginning.. Treat it more like soil for the first 10/15 days.. Then go daily feeding with run off till the chop

I think the best thing I can probably do is start a diary for my next grow. Perhaps others run into the same issues as me then and I can be some help. Rather than just a pain in the backside asking questions.

I already feel I have learnt some of the mistakes I have made. For example I read online someone in coco giving less water than me and getting run off. When I watered mine for the first time, I feel I got a lot more than 20%. Now I understand coco holds oxygen so it couldn’t be an issue. The coco though was absolutely soaked. Plus I dumped a load more water on it faster which may have compressed the coco a little.
I just took one of the first pots and filled it with some coco out of the bag. Watered exactly 50ml and got some run off I guess as the coco has some moisture out of the bag. Well I know I gave mine at least double that amount possibly triple. Then take into account I was doing that daily. No wonder the roots didn’t have to grow and go searching.
50ml enough to saturate the whole pot and get some run off. Even when I filled another pot with some coco that had gone bone dry, 50ml was still enough to saturate it again and I’d not let the coco go that dry if it had a plant in it.

anyway feel like it’s a step in the right direction. Keep the coco moist but not soaking to encourage the roots to grow.

I did a trial grow with coco. Done as easily as possible. I don't use pH or ec meters with non coco media so no meters were used for my coco grow.

One seed plant plus a late arrival clone. Both OG Kush.

I feel more confident about getting it right next time. I say getting it right but only talking about a good root system. Plants seem to grow without much issue.

    Hi Broski

One question did you compress the coco when you put it in the pot. ie Trying to ram as much in the pot as possible? It may be a reason for the overwatering.

As last time I was in coco my media almost disintegrated when I potted up, I certainly couldn't have played the shell game peeping at my roots. Lol

I think watering so much probably added to compressing the coco a bit. I proper soaked them and had so much run off it may as well have been a flush lol . I know a pot will hold the same volume of water but when I gave a quick 50ml to an plantless pot today. I tipped the coco out to make sure it saturated it all. The coco was wet and also way more loose. The 50ml seemed enough to have the coco wet but not soaking. How much water I gave, I remember lifting the pot up and moving it to where I wanted it. Just lifting the pot even loads more water came out.
Now bear that in mind, plus the fact I was watering the minute the tops started to look as if they was drying. Constantly flooding the pots with more water than needed to get a little run off. It’s got to have had an impact on the roots. So I am hoping next time round I have sorted it.

I mentioned it to my friend on the phone and he said he goes from small pots straight into into 11litre pots. Doesn’t water to run off as it would stay wet to long. Gives enough that it takes 3 days to need another watering. Increases how much they get over time and ends up with lovely root systems then waters daily. Makes me think even more I should have gave less than I did. 50ml for the small pot is enough to fully saturate it.

You'll be rite! I found coco to be really easy to get on with. Hoping to start another coco grow soon.

I did like your friend last time and went from small pots to 11 litre. And they were sat in an alien bottom feed system, sat in water for days at a time (didn't put any clay pebbles in the bottom ) and still got a great harvest!
